Data Porn: Giant Bomb October

October has come and gone so let's look back at what got this community excited.  But first, give it up for the top wiki mods for sifting through all those wiki submissions.  If we had a way to measure the input of forum mods I would show that too because those guys are always working hard on policing the wiki for plagiarism, banning porn spammers and answering questions on the bug and edit forums.  So yay mods!

Once again our charts are whacked, Danguy probably should read Zombiepie?

Fallout: New Vegas Dominates Giant Bomb's Attention

Take a gander at the bar charts below.  No big surprise here, Fallout: New Vegas is the clear winner -- dominating the conversations on user blogs.  Click to expand the two smaller bar charts below and you'll find Fallout: New Vegas was also the second most watched Quick Look (watch here) and the second most visited wiki page.

The popularity of Minecraft amazes me. In a good way.

I love the smell of fresh graphs. Sexy. That reminds me, I need to watch that Fallout: New Vegas Quicklook.

I love this stuff

Hmm awww hot fap fap fap.

Oh yeah baby, data porn!

Posted by Mesoian

Well I liked the video. William.

Posted by Gav47

I'm a sucker for a good graph.

Good to see quick looks are popular - although it must irk those who spent 5 hours writing a review.  QL is the most unique thing GB offers over other sites.

Once again very interesting.

I can't tell you the number of times I watched that Super Meat Boy Quick Look, but I know it was over 10. More of Brad going insane please.

Yes I can now definatively confirm that I am Danguy and mraccoon is fuzzyslug! Also I'll happily take the #2 wiki mod position on Giant Bomb.

Nice. It's always interesting reading this stuff.

Oh hey, what up Dangu... er... I mean Zombie. :P

(Oh, and when I go to that most recent blogs page, it says Comic Vine at the top. Top Men!)

@ZombiePie: Thinking about taking mracoon's slot? Or has adding credits to games brought your sanity to the breaking point?

This is good.

Thanks for sharing.

But: Please don't use 3D charts if the third dimension doesn't really visualize anything. So most of the time, just don't use 3D charts. Also, there's no need to color the bars when there's already labels directly underneath them, it just makes them a bit harder to compare.

Bonus points, on the other hand, for avoiding pie charts - my shit would be boiling.

Im thinking about adding some pie charts.

@ethan: I love pie charts!

Mmm....pie charts.

BOILING, i say. You ever seen a man's shit boil, Lance? It's a vile experience.

Im kinda into this.....

And Im sorta surprised the Shortest Slow Look (Longest Quick Look) on the site is the most watched video. Is that stat only counting people watching from start to finish?? Im guessing not.

Those are starts regardless of finishes.

Right, i also find it surprising that SMB tops the list, because of the game's niche appeal compared to the games it's up against.

On the other hand it was one of the most entertaining quick looks in recent memory, so perhaps that answers the question.

Even for enthusiast sites I would say GB audience skews more hardcore though.  Can't see your average gamespot or IGN user sitting through 100 hours of Persona 4.

Only thing I get out of this is that other than two people, all of the mods are lousy

why was bioshock edited so much? Did I miss something?

Completely agree. No idea why Ethan keeps us around, we just sit around in our mod board sharing LOLcat images and making inappropriate jokes all the time!

All jokes aside though, some mods simply prefer to focus solely on reviewing wiki submissions which works out well for everyone because it means we've always got a few dedicated individuals handling that sort of stuff. Which allows the rest of us to focus on cleaning up the absolute shit storm left by the plague of spammers we've had on the site for the last few months now.

@LordAndrew:  Speaking of Minecraft, any idea why there is no link generated on the page to the user reviews?  Yet it has a DLC page. /cries
Does that happen elsewhere?   I didn't even know there were any others until I posted mine.

@CitizenKane: Try our delicious exploding pie charts. They'll knock your socks off!  Off, I say!

@Hamz:  Just want to say thanks for keeping the spam in check. Ya know ya hit the big time when...
Are any mods focused solely on the image galleries, or is that all rolled in to wiki duties?
Posted by LordAndrew
@Brackynews: The link only appears if the game has a release date listed and that date has already passed. Ideally it would also show the link if user reviews already exist, but that would probably require more queries that would would just be wasteful in most cases.

Not surprised by SMB quick look. I watched it three times myself. I never watch them more than once.

Might I add that according to Ethan's other data I'm also the most followed(popular) moderator on this site as well ;)

But no, in all seriousness as Hamz said the graph is specifically catered to wiki moderations and as such does not paint the entire picture. Also we have various mods who assist in ways that are not intrinsically visible to the average user, but are still important in their own right in the moderation process on this site.

I love this stuff, how about making it available all the time?

Loving these stats - haven't seen anything like this before so it's really interesting to know the rough view count on most GB videos etc.
