Oddly enough there are no games set in my hometown of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. But now I live in Vancouver, which was at least destroyed by reapers at the beginning of Mass Effect 3.

By the way this was a stealth-convince-me-to-play-EarthBound-thread!

Okay so how come the series never sold more than 8 copies in North America?

  • RPGs didn't become mainstream in America yet.
  • A pretty bad marketing campaign.
  • Simple, cutesy graphics that turned some gamers off at the time.

That's why nobody bought it except me and 7 other people I guess.

And Earthbound is still a great game today. In 2013. Earthbound was a game ahead of its time and one of the earliest JRPGs to take place in a modern setting. It's funny, weird, self-aware and surprisingly emotional at times. Not at all shitty.

Also it was a very late SNES game. Jeff mentioned on the Bombcast that it came out around the time people were starting to prepare for the next gen. Also if you're asking "if the characters even have spells" I really doubt this is the game for you.

I just finished it. It's short, about three hours. Really charming game. But yeah, life-simulator is a really weird way to describe what is basically just you walking around a town reading dialogue. That is really all this game is.. no puzzles or mechanics to speak of. You walk around and talk to people and a weird, really funny story takes place. This is a comparison that will only make sense to a few but it is basically if you made the real-world town segments from Ni No Kuni into a little game. Having said that, if that sounds like something you'd be into at all, I'd check it out, because I liked it a lot.

ok, but what about the Friday monsters?

They may or may not be real and have little to no bearing on what you do in the game.

Glad I read these posts before I went further down my strength path. Who wouldn't want to be strong, I asked myself.

Honest, 5 hour in question: is Minotaur impossible or do I just suck?

I'm bufuing like crazy, answering the dialogue choices correctly, and tarukaja-ing when necessary, but he still just eventually getting cheap one shot deaths. What's uppp?

What's your team set-up like? Often when a strategy fails it's usually your demons that need an adjustment. Granted, I recall just barely winning when I fought him, so I would expect to lose several demons regardless.

Also, don't forget you have items you can use. It might be obvious, but some people hoard them needlessly when this is a game where you should be using them.

Yeah I think item usage made the difference! Also I was trying to find a line-up that worked for the entire battle when constantly switching demons out seemed to work much better. Thanks!

EDIT: Also, glad I stuck with it. Things get kind of awesome story wise afterward.

@isomeri man, I wish my childhood memories were of playing Proteus and Journey. You'd be setting that kid up to turn out awesome.

@zeik: Yeah I definitely don't have any problems with the amount of story in the game, but some of the writing is god awful. I don't really understand how great localizations like Persona 4 can come out of the same company that made SMT IV. Still loving the game, but I wish it felt like human beings wrote the dialogue so I could enjoy those parts as much as the part where I'm playing it.

@hailinel: I'm not following. Maybe one more metaphor would clear it up for me.

Guys, I know this sounds weird, but it just hit me that some YouTube videos might be factually or ethically questionable. Someone talk me off the edge.
