So today me and my friend went to the mall and Rick Roll'd two stores. We had hit them a few weeks before and it's really funny when it works right. How does one Rick Roll a store? Easy: you need a store with public internet enabled computers. Then you launch internet explorer (or safari if it's a mac) and go to the site http://www.rickrolling.com and leave it on with the volume cranked. Then you briskly walk out of the store casually and watch in hilarity as store clerks storm the computer and try to X it out. However, if you know the site you'll know that the site is hard to x out of (it's really really hard to explain, visit the site yourself to find out what I mean...) and on top of that, it moves around your desktop!
When we did it before, we did one computer at an apple store and then hit a nearby Circuit City. The apple store one was great since there was a crowd of about eight people trying to dismantle the site. At the Circuit City, some big black guy stood at the computer for like 10 minutes trying to x it out. He looked really pissed, and would've probably kicked us out if we weren't professionals.
So today we returned to the mall to find a line outside the Apple Store for the new iPhone 3G. We went to two laptops at the side of the store and opened up the "Pages" program, which is essentially the Apple version of Microsoft Word. My friend made the site into a hyperlink on both sites so it said in huge bold letters FREE $100 IPHONE COUPONS! on the screen as a link. Of course, when you click on it it takes you to the rick roll site. We didn't see anybody click them, but when we returned to the store they had been taken down.
After that, we walked to Circuit City and after looking around and screwing with some kid on the PS3 they had there we made our way to the giant touch sensitive HP they had in the middle of the store. Oddly enough, it was the only PC there that was connected to the internet. Turns out they had become wise to us because they blocked Rickrolling.com. Too bad they didn't know that there's a clone of that site: http://www.smouch.net/lol . It would be risky though, the manager was grilling us from across the customer service desk, and right behind us there was an aisle of what must've been five clerks. I pretended to fiddle with the demo PSP they had there while my friend loaded the site. Soon enough he whispered "Steve!" and I knew it had worked. We made our way out of the store quick and calm, to ensure we weren't suspected.
I also made a video in GTA IV where Niko visits an internet cafe and (with some handy editing) Rick Rolls the cafe and earns a five star wanted level as a result. The video will be up on my YouTube account very shortly, if not by now.
