Generation 7 - My Top 10

As we are soon to make the transition into Generation 8, I thought that it would be appropriate to look at the previous 8 years and pick out 10 of my favorites. Some were game changers and revolutionized the genre, others were simply just a lot of fun. With this being said, I am also going to limit my list to retail as I often place downloadable games into a different class. HD remakes will not be considered either. This list was extremely difficult to create as I wanted to include about 5 other games but just could not find the room. It's also worth noting that there are still a few Triple A titles that I have yet to play. Enjoy!

I felt like I was watching a movie, only that I controlled the action sequences. Uncharted 2 was gorgeous and will be remembered as one of the better games ever released.

I became completely attached to the characters and their stories. It was a shame that the game ended, but Mass Effect 3 delivered a near similar experience that unfortunately ended as well.

It's mind blowing how large this game is. The gameplay is fun, the story interesting, and you can get lost for hours and hours just doing meaningful sidequests.

I wish that this game didn't keep track of playtime because I put about 9 days into Modern Warfare 2. It still haunts me that I never got the Nuke Killstreak, but I refused to boost like so many others.

In my opinion, the first Galaxy game was the greatest 3D Platformer until the sequel came out. Super Mario Galaxy 2 has the best level design of any game, ever.

    Great gameplay

    Great story

    Fantastic environment

    Solid shooting mechanics

Not sure what else can be said.

I have always been a fan of the franchise, but none played better than Halo 4. The campaign was the best in the series and I never had more fun with a Halo multiplayer until playing this version.

I felt like Dead Space came from no where. It was everything that a survival horror game should be with a great story and great gameplay.

I picked this as my game of the year in 2008. Spending hours on sidequests, or tackling the main storyline, Fable II was nothing but fun throughout. The dog was a great addition as well.

It was the perfect game when the Xbox 360 was looking for an identity. Yes, the game's awesome shooting mechanics and story are certainly top notch, but it was the sheer brutality of Gears of War that made it one of the best this generation.
