I don't understand why people complain about games prices. You don't have to pay full price for a new release. All you gotta do is wait a few years then pick it up for next to nothing from some chump on eBay.

Your thread title is fucking stupid. I don't consider myself an idiot for paying full price and supporting game developers. If everyone bought off eBay we wouldn't get near as many games coming out.

Add to the fact that if everyone bought off eBay a few years later...

Yeah, thread title is fucking stupid.

Seems a bit un-called for. Many video games are worth the asking price, so I see nothing wrong with paying the full price.

I paid £40 for PGR4. Am I angry that it is now cheap? No, because I feel that my time with it was worth the money.

if you aren't buying new games then developers aren't getting any of yo' money.

if they aren't getting any of your dolla then they won't be making any more games, and then you won't have anything to buy off ebay

did you just say you don't have to pay full price for a new release and then show us the price for PGR4?  That game is two years old, not a new release.  Also, if you had bought it new and supported great companies like Bizzare Creations, maybe they would STILL BE MAKING GAMES TODAY INSTEAD OF CLOSED BY THEIR PUBLISHER BECAUSE NO ONE BOUGHT THEIR GAME NEW!

I hope you enjoy that game, and have fun waiting for PGR5 because it will never come thanks to people like you.

Ok, that came off a bit too harsh maybe.  If you can't afford a game at new prices, whatever, but don't call others idiots for supporting an industry we love.

Full price for what? Games?

I'm not using Amazon or Ebay and I don't even pay full price for a game.
Just walk into game stop "Hey Buddy, great weekend huh? anyway, that game is out"
Guy behind the desk hands you the game and goes "Oh wow, you're up for a special offer again! This time for wearing a T-shirt that has the letter L on it! Congrats!"

Yeah, he does that a lot, It's good to have friends

1st of all, my father used to think that. Then he got ripped off spending about $600 on ipods on me and my two siblings. They were cheap knockoffs that didn't work. They always had the stupid stupid stupid shake thing that the nano or whatever had, but you couldn't turn it off. The computer rarely recognized it, and when it did, most of the folders you were supposed to put stuff into did little, if anything, when you wanted to consume that content on the device.
In short, they were useless unless you planned on just sitting still and spending hours getting a couple of songs to be recognized by the device.

On top of that, I like supporting developers and all that good stuff, plus buying new means it'll likely last longer and be in better shape.

This is pretty much how I feel. I know what it's like to not have money for a $60 game, and Portal 2 is probably the only full price (ish, 5% preorder on Steam) game I bought this year.

For the games that I just want to try, I go on sites like Ebay and Amazon after some time has passed. For the games I am genuinely interested in and think it deserves my money, I buy at full price. If the game I bought online was a pleasant surprise, I'll buy the sequel day one.
It's a slightly flawed plan in the sense that they may not even get a sequel, but my wallet is tight and I need to spend carefully.

I agree with the majority of the people on this thread as well. This thread's title is idiotic.

I buy most my games on release but i usually never play more than £30 for a game nowdays

i personally think £30 is an ok price to pay for games, its not bank breaking? i suppose for people who buy alot of games..i tend to swap between renting and purchasing so it doesnt hurt me as much

Well no, because I'm pretty sure I got it after Bizarre Creations went out of business.

EDIT: If you're trying to make me feel guilty for buying a used game...I would be forced to point out certain flaws in your logic.

This. I pay full price cause I want to support the product. Don't like how I have to pay for them, but that's the way it is.

£40 is not a lot of money for the amount of entertainment you receive from a good game.

@EVO:

No one is an idiot for paying full price for a game.  You're right, one can buy games a lot cheaper at ebay or amazon and if you're short on case this is a good option.  I'm a college student and have used amazon quite a bit as I don't have a regular income.  But if I did have a regular income I would chose to pay full-price or near full-price for a game rather than buy it used as that supports the developers.  It's actually smarter to buy games new because that increases the likelihood that games like the one bought will be made again.  If new games aren't bought publishers won't put the money behind the projects created by the developers of those games as they see it as a waste of money.

Project Gotham Racing 4 is a brilliant title. It's a shame that Bizarre had to be shut down. I only bought PGR4 recently, for £5 at a local retailer. While I didn't get it as cheap as you managed to find your copy, it's worth every penny I paid and more. Sure, it's better to pay full price to aid the developers but at the same time I can't afford to continually do that. Used games don't bother me - if there are enough copies bought new and then sold used the company is still making a decent bit of profit and that's what matters. I'm looking forward to buying stuff from eBay in the future, because there are some brilliant deals there.

I just keep up on deals, for example just saved £20 off the rrp for L.A. Noire as I found it on Best Buy for £29.99. Keep your eye open and there are always deals to be had. I really only venture to ebay for retro stuff.

I hate how ridiculously expensive games are in Australia, but I still want to support the industry I love so much by paying full price for most games.

OR you could buy games at Kmart/Amazon on release day and get gift cards. I bought LA Noire at Kmart on Tuesday for $59.99, and I got a $20 gift card AND a $19.99 game for free. Am I an idiot for that?
