I'm willing to bet Sony is going to clear a lot of obstacles to development and take a shot at the App Store. If they can make an alternate revenue stream like that work, then they can price this thing close to the 3DS and cheaper than a lot of the touch devices. bridging the casual and core markets. Then again, I may be giving them more credit than they deserve.
It's a great system with some really novel games, but it's been absolutely wrecked by piracy. GTA: Chinatown Wars dominated the iPhone sales charts a year ago, but when you look at its DS release, a system that's sold well amongst adults, it saw some of the worst numbers in spite of good word of mouth and being one of the best reviewed games on the system. The only difference I can see is that the process of piracy is just too damn easy on one of those systems.
