You know after reading threads on this topic here and on other boards about how badly things where going I expected that when I tried playing tonight that it would be a horrible, unplayble mess. Turns out everything (install, account settings, login, new game) worked correctly on the first try. No glitches. No crashes. Nothing out of the ordinary where in fact the most worrisome thing I saw was the system MOTD over in World of Warcraft mentioned possible login issues where being looked at.

It isn't that I don't believe others when they say they had problems but I encountered none of those issues so I really wonder about how big the scope of the issues were. As far as I can remember this is smoothest launch I have seen for something this large and popular where I was even ready and expecting a queue but never saw it.

I'm getting mostly a "...like riding a bicycle" vibe. Except the improvements with the way skills/talents and glyphs work which is superior.

This makes no more sense than asking "Do the System Requirements for a game change the review score?"

If you are reading the conversation....but whatever. People acting crazy when an online game is wildly successful and has launch day problems is disappointing and unfortunately not surprising resulting in raging when it actually doesn't make any sense.

I'm am a little surprised it happened to Blizzard but that is more of a technical issue where I wonder if the earlier glitches have more deep flaws than initialized suspected which would have had just as much chance manifesting itself in any single player mode as well.

Sort of...I mean people aren't moaning and complaining that Black Ops (or Black Ops 2) needs online to do all of the features those guys want to stuff into the game even in single player modes. I lament the "anti-online" stance especially when it doesn't make sense compared to the features provided and what the competition pushes.

Complexity isn't an excuse though. Blizzard does need to fix features they promised where why and how is academic but often not a concern to the user/player.

Gotta love those people in beta that were saying: It's just as STRESS TEST folks, they will have their shit together at launch. I will buy this game when it has an offline mode, not before (so probably never).

Wait...so fixing an online service problem is an offline mode?

Well yeah, is that so hard to understand?!

I just want to play it in single player if I choose to. I want to be able to play this game without randomly getting disconnected, without lag and server downtimes. I want to play it on my long ass plane trip next week. I know i know, that's not what Diablo 3 is aparently. Diablo and Diablo 2 were just that for me though.

Actually it is hard to understand since the problem is the online service not a missing mode in the game. Why would you want to play an online game in an offline mode? Just to click on stuff?

Ok, you are just doing the wise guy routine, got it.

And what are you doing? Seriously what is the point of an offline mode for a game that is played online, stores your character online, has additional features online? To play in a crappy environment that lacks power, that is noisy, that is cramped in some hobbled mode where little matters? How very entertaining.

And have you actually tried to play a game like Diablo 2 on an airplane? It sucks due to the noise and space and unless you are in a new airplane with new hardware getting power is a problem. An off-line mode won't help fix that either

Is eBay a safe place to buy servers from, for example I was thinking of doing a MineCraft server and I saw one for cheap.

Do you think that is a wise move?

Its completely "buyer beware" on eBay. That doesn't mean you can't find a good deal on a machine that will last a decade but the contrary can happen as well.

I recommend looking at refurbish from the dealers instead where Dell.com offers some great stuff with some support on refurbished hardware. I would also recommend looking into hosted solution where you can just buy a server hosted by some ISP where you don't need to manage the hardware.
