A strategy game in this day and age? Ryan Davis said it could never happen.

Nice to see Kalypso sticking with what made the series great and not turning it into Shoot Bang Modern Kill 8: Forever War Combat

@c0l0nelp0c0rn1: My point was that Vinny should play the games he is interested in.  Apparently I was wrong.  Vinny should only play games that interest you, and spend all of his free time playing games that you are interested in.

My mistake.

@c0l0nelp0c0rn1: What's the last game Vinny reviewed?

@ApolloBob: It was more in reference to how to respond to peer/media pressuring consumers to always move to the next big thing.

The Witcher is a shitty game? Oh console kids, never change.  What's the rush, Vinny? Enjoy the games.  Just because the Witcher didn't come out this week doesn't make it a bad game.  It's still better looking than most console games and has a deeper more rewarding story than anything you'll find in the flavor of the week releases over the next couple months.  Play through the Witcher, then play through the Witcher 2.  Be a man, don't let peer pressure force you into thinking you have some sort of set time limit in which to finish, thus forcing you to abandon the excellent first game.

The beauty of the combat in Witcher 2 (where it improves upon the first) is that it forces you into using all of your abilities and for most of the prologue and first chapter, you feel vulnerable.  You have to always be on your toes because three bandits or a gaggle of drowners will fuck you up good.  Unlike most games these days, combat is not a diversion meant to give you some cheap thrills and help you forget about the atrocious story.  The combat in the Witcher 2 is meant to convey the bleak world Geralt inhabits and evoke the ever-present threat of death.  The combat supports and enriches the story.

@GS_Dan: It would be if they allowed me to patch my existing game with their yearly expansion packs and simply add the new updates to Rock Band 1 (for a reasonable fee of course). That's a platform, not just adding content.

Game seems great but I really, really hope it fails.  Maybe then they will go to the "Rock Band as a platform" that they promised with the initial release instead of yearly bundles.

The battle system looks like the Sonic RPG.  Sweet!

@snide: 4 feeds!  Oh man, thank God.  You really had me going but that was just too much.  Clearly a joke.  Well freaking played!  phew.

Was the best show around while it lasted, but I'm not going to watch a week old SportsCenter and I'm not going to listen to a week old current video game events podcast.  Also not going to spend $50/year for something I've been getting free for a couple years.

So much for that "you won't lose anything you have now" Dave blog.
