Games I Played Last Week 8/18 to 8/24

Due to a very busy couple weeks and a trip in between, I didn't get a lot of gaming in. However, I did get a few hours to play.

My Week in Gaming 8/18-8/24

Bravely Default

I got about 15 hours into Bravely Default before putting it down for some other games. I really enjoyed the first dozen hours of it, but it did start to get a little long for me. The dialog is pretty bad, and the pacing of the conversations and cut-scenes make them feel even longer than they are. Overall, I do like the game, and I want to finish it, but I can't imagine playing through the rest of it without taking some more breaks from it (i.e. not playing it at all for a few weeks).

Getting back into the game was actually harder than I thought. I didn't have patience for the fights for the first couple hours after picking it up again. However, I am now in a little more of a rhythm, and I'm going to to try to let that carry me for at least another ten hours, if not more. I'll be happy, though if I can get just ten hours in it before putting it down for another chunk of time.

Valiant Hearts: The Great War

I started playing Valiant Hearts last week, and I have to say that I am a bit disappointed. I was really, really excited for this game, but I'm just not really that into the gameplay. The puzzles are okay, but some can be frustrating, and almost all of them are tedious. Even if I know the solution from the beginning, the time it takes to carry them out gets very boring. I'm going to get through it, and I hope the end of it gets better, but it just isn't standing out to me as the game I was hoping it would be. I wanted a game that took me through a great story without a lot of frustrations that took me out of the story - something I think really good adventure games can do (like The Longest Journey series).
