What types of exercises do you struggle with the most?

( I'm interested in seeing what GB members struggles with certain workouts, so feel free to give quick detail or just give a name.)

For me some of the workouts I struggle with the most are....

Squats - Now doing the squats with weights can be a desperate struggle, but the after effects is what bothers me the most. Feeling that snap back action in my legs can be bothersome. Especially when I'm using the bathroom, picking something up or moving in general. Feeling that intense pain can be an awful experience.

Running on the Treadmill - Trying to Keep up pace while I'd set the speed limit up to 40. Can give me that intense rush while I'm trying to catch my breath. Sometimes I try to expect more out of myself and run for 60 minutes, but in reality I can run about 35 or 40 minutes before my body gives out. My heart can only take so much stress.

Stair Master - Fuck this machine. After only 10 minutes I felt like my heart was going to explode. It feels like a robot is trying to force you to walk up the stairs, but in the end this machine ain't worth a heart attack.

For me an injury that I've suffered was when my spine was messed up, even then I still worked out to the best of my ability. Though I had to take it easy when I did back exercises for awhile.

I have a significantly weaker left shoulder from a childhood injury, so anything that involves too much use of that.

When it comes to days where I workout at home. I usually find ways to improvise to get a good workout. For most part I make sure to get a half hour exercise going on, but that's only when I'm unable to go to the gym. Me personally I don't like exercising at home much, it doesn't put me into the mindset to train.

Last year before I had a chance to go to a gym. I was stuck doing nothing but at home workout vids. Even though it was hell I did learn alot of different exercises. Exercises that I only use when I got no cardio machine or weights.

Ones that don't get me places. I cannot justify getting on a treadmill or indoor bike and then run or pedal my way to nowhere. For me exercise needs to integrated into travel or recreation.

Also cock pushups.... those are tough.

I've got a really weak right knee, lack of cartilage or something, I've never had it looked at. Anyway, squats and lunges and what have you make it pop on almost every rep - it's a very uncomfortable feeling and if what I'm doing is taxing enough, it can often feel like I'm on the verge of doing myself some lasting harm. For that reason I focus less on my legs than I probably ought to.

Its probably best to have a doctor check it out, just to make sure everything is alright with your knee.

Usually on the days where I'm chilling out. I might drink coffee or have a cheat meal. Sometimes I might get greedy and end up having a cheat day, but I can't help out.

I like to go on giantbomb to kill sometime, or go on youtube. Most of the times I watch fitness channels. Though its ironic because when I was 330 pounds, fitness was the last thing on my mind, but somehow I grew to love it. Nowadays fitness channels just helps me stay motivated, and to me there fun to watch.

Yesterday I've over-trained. I increase the weight volume and was working different parts of my body. I trained to failure on each set, and hit it until I couldn't do no fucking more. Today I feel nothing but intense pain, it feels wonderful. Now I know had a great effective workout. I always got to push my body to its limits, then once I reach my limit I got to increase my limit. I want to get stronger and transform myself for the better.

Hell I had days where I workout for hours, or walk to the gym at night even when I worked out during the day. Like CT Fletcher says ''it has to become an obsession'' to get what you desire.

Doesn't that just lead to intense fatigue and causing more damage? You need time to rest

That's true

Usually I hit weights three times a week, and do cardio on my off days. On the weekends I usually take breaks from working out, but at the very beginning when I first started exercising last year. I would workout every single day doing nothing but cardio, even when I was sick or in pain I would still workout. It help take my mind off of things that was going on in my life, and I didn't want to give myself excuses of not training, its just something I'm use too.

I get that. I'm on an 8 day cycle, with today being my one off day. It's driving me crazy to not go for a jog, but since I did my leg workout yesterday, I need to give them a chance to rest. So in the meantime, I will drink my green tea and study and be really antsy

My squats are lagging as currently I can deadlift 405, bench press 305, and only squat 315.

I'm fairly happy with all of these but I want them to get better, and hopefully balance out my squats soon.

I really hate treadmills.

I can do 20 miles a week in most weather and enjoy myself. But doing 2 miles on a treadmill is just boring. Too much noise, nothing to look at and no hills is just not fun at all.

I hate treadmills with a burning passion. I don't hate running, just treadmills. They manage to take out the parts of running I like (being outside, seeing some nature/whatever is going on around town). I totally understand why people use them and everything, just for me I can't stand it. I'm also not a big fan of running on tracks. When I run 5 miles I like see 5 miles worth of stuff, not just the same quarter mile 20 times.

I also don't like swimming as an exercise, if I'm just doing it for fun it's fine but when it is a work out I hate it. That is just because it is so demanding. My friends and I decided to swim across a river just for shits and giggles. It couldn't have been more than 100 yards but there was a decent current and by the time we got across and back I felt like I was done with physical activity for the rest of my life.

I remember when I was practicing swimming I had some snap back action. At the time I was inside a indoor swimming pool, and I would swim up and down the lanes, afterwards I ended up in alot of pain.

Having a muscle physique is my main fitness goal. I'm getting there, but I need to lean out more. Once I reach to around 180 pounds I'll be mainly focus on building solid muscle. I want to have phenomenal gainz, all kinds of gainz. I want to feel strong and not look weak, and have sex with lots of women. When that time comes I'll be training hard and working my way up.

I almost died once when I went swimming with a friend in Canada. I jumped in a pool, but didn't know how deep it was until I got in.

I almost blacked out, but luckily a lifeguard noticed me. Sense that happen I started practicing how to swim, and overtime I eventually learned.

Yeah, right? A "friend" in "Canada." Nice cover story

Seriously though, I'm glad you didn't die. Drowning would be one of the worst ways to die I could imagine

One of my older brother's died from swimming in a pool. He went to a field trip in high school and never came back, It changed me and my family lives forever.

My cousin drowned at a friend's house when he was 5 and it makes me uneasy when I see children playing by pools while their parents don't seem 100% focused on them

As for the topic at hand, I hate doing push-ups. I know that if I tried, I could do better, and I am seriously considering using the push-up app from the people who do one of those Couch to 5k apps (which I heartily recommend. It has made running fairly painless)

You put dumbells on the ground and use them as support for a pushup. Between every pushup you have to lift one of the dumbells. I almost died after 3 sets, and even after reducing the weight it was still brutal. But no pain no gain right?

Speaking of gains, what the hell do I do about mis-aligned abs? Show them or cover them up? (yeah there's no way to fix it I know)

Dumbell pushups is something that I will probably tryout now. I haven't actually tried it before, but it sounds effective.

Dead-lifts always make my back feel like spaghetti. I also hate doing dips, not because I find them hard but because it wrecks my palms.

I don't like core day either. We always do core at the end of the week so we have the weekend to recover. Fucking core day.

Anything is pretty hard on me after a bit, but cardio is the worst, i have heart problems and asthma so i cant really work out in the traditional sense without breathing really heavy. Was doing roofing for awhile and carrying 85lb bundles of shingles up ladders, fuck that shit.

I always wished i could get into running though, but i think my health issues would be a serious barrier to that.

@falserelic: How much do you think this could help with overcoming depression...I'm stuck in it and i feel like shit. I'm not fat I'm actually fairly thin, but i guess it will make me feel better and have more self confidence and all. And yeah my therapist has been telling me to do it, but i want someone who is actually doing it to tell me lol...

It's absolutely huge for that. I've suffered from clinical depression a couple times, and both times starting a semi-regular workout regimen has done wonders for mental health, especially in regards to motivating you to actually DO OTHER SHIT. If you have the problem of not wanting to go anywhere, or see anyone, or do anything, exercise helps clear your mind and put you at a certain kind of peace of mind which really really helps.

To answer the OP, any type of ab/stomach workout is pure torture. Running is ok, lifting is amazing, swimming is good, jump roping is fun but rough, but ab crunch related shit is the worst.

(If you mean by working out)

For me working out helped cleared alot of stress in my mind. Last year I was going through a huge depression, but somehow I knew I couldn't let myself get consumed by it. Life will go on whether if I was happy or not.

In order for change to come you have to allow it to happen. Even though it was hard I decided to make a change for myself, and started having a more positive outlook on life. The more I kept doing it the easier things was becoming, and I used the negative as energy when it came towards working it.

To answer your question. We all have are own ways to relieve negativity, but if you let it bring you down it will keep you there. Life is challenging, but it can also be improved. You have to buildup the willpower to drive yourself forward for the better, and we all have the ability to make change happen.

Motivation. The weight lifting, while rough and terrible, actually left me feeling fairly good (if broken). Running killed me though, and always will. Though I guess an even harder part is the dieting. Exercise isn't going to do any good if your diet is shit. I could take control of my exercising if I budged my time, but dieting is something else.

Working out for me is apart of my life now. Once I started I couldn't stop, because I didn't want to go back to an old-weaker version of myself. That's all the motivation I needed to keep me going. People tried to put me down along the way but I didn't stop.

Squats for me too, when I'm on the machine I can move 630lbs, but on the rack I can barely squat the bar without losing my balance, I want to hire a trainer to teach me that one thing but I'm worried I'll get put on some list and get bothered by trainers all the time to sign up for more.

Pull ups. At no point in my life have I been able to properly perform a single rep. I started lifting about a month ago and one of my major goals is to be able to push out a few sets.

Thinking about it I'm going to give pull ups a try again. I can hold my upper body up and do leg ups, but I haven't really tried pull ups. Last time I did them I was heavily overweight, but this time I probably can knock down afew reps...

I just hate running on the treadmill. I can swim for an hour or bike hard for 20 miles but the treadmill just makes me irrationally angry.

Easy to see why people that get back in the gym and start on the treadmill don't always stick with exercise.

I have a hard time with the ones that are exercise. Sitting in seiza also sucks but I'm not sure if that one falls within the "exercise" part of the "things that put you in crippling pain" Venn diagram.

I can definitely relate to you guys. When I was obese exercising was the last thing on my mind. I felt like it was pointless and that I was never going to lose weight, but one day I just got tired of feeling sorry for myself, and I didn't want to use excuses why I can't lose weight. So I went on the internet to find workout routines, and then I came across the hodgetwin's channel.

I started watching their vids and learned about fasting. At first I was skeptical if it was going to work, but I gave it a try. I started exercising and doing alternate day fasting. Then after a few weeks I was dropping weight off, it felt good. Next thing you know I started to love exercising and fitness. I started learning new workout methods and found other aswome youtube fitness channels.

Nowadays I do intermittent fasting and train hard..
