FATH3AD: Best of 2010

  • Being a huge fan of the original Mass Effect, it's only fair that I was so excited about ME2 that I literally was pulling my hair out. This game delivered in every way possible. Improved combat mechanics, slicker controls, a new lighting engine that made everything look so much nicer and an epic story that made every main mission feel like an episode in a big TV Show. I always come back to this game for the beautiful universe, spine chilling story and voice acting and those epic action sequences that just give you goosebumps. One of the first big releases for 2010 is my favorite for 2010.

  • I must admit, I was reluctant to play RDR at first. My first thought of it was that it was just going to be another try hard western game. My brother kept telling me to play it and I finally gave in. This game took the old saying "never judge a book by its cover" and literally beat my face to a pulp with it. It has been a while since I was so drawn in and immersed by a sandbox game such as this. Tight controls, beautiful vistas of the old west and an emotional story saw me playing this to the end and still left it spinning in my 360 long after. This game truly provides a sense of adventure and escapism that I haven't gotten for a long time from a game. Only thing that stopped this game from hitting my number 1 is those little annoying bugs like gloves disappearing and Rockstar's usual difficulty rocket for a mission.

  • Assassins Creed II, I only finished you a few months ago and then your Brotherhood comes flying around the corner for yet another round of face stabbing. I'll admit, I wasn't ready for it and I was still mildly AC'd out by the time AC:B came round. But Brotherhood, is still, like ACII, AWESOME. Everything about it has been refined and made better. Everything from the sharper textures to the brilliant new combat system which favors attacking rather than counter attacking. Wiping out a big group of guards in a few seconds felt tight and slick. There's not much else I can say other than it is just a better Assassin's Creed game. The timing of the release, however, could have been left a bit later as I was still getting over ACII, but that's just me.

  • At first, I was so turned off by the original concept of Convicition that I had lost all hope for the Splinter Cell franchise. When the development went dark for a while and then popped up with an all new concept, it was then that, while still skeptical, a flicker of hope came through. I wasn't overly impressed by the demo and the "one press awesome button", I mean, Mark and Execute. But it grew on me. Eventually I bought the game and I now enjoy playing it whenever I feel like getting my Splinter Cell on. The Coop is also brilliant and fun, taking the tight controls and Mark and Execute mechanics from single player and making it work seamlessly in the two man Coop. In my opinion, this is the best Splinter Cell game since Chaos Theory.

  • While I was very excited about Fable III, there was just something about it that didn't quite have the same magic or mystery as Fable II did. Even though Fable III was essentially just Fable II with some sharper visuals and tighter combat, the story itself was a bit lackluster and in my opinion, giving the main character a voice wasn't a very good decision. I'm sorry, Mr. Molyneux, but this is not the greatest game ever made. All that aside, I did enjoy Fable III quite a bit and have relatively high hopes for any other sequel Peter and the folks at Lionhead can pump out.
