So this year i've started hosting LAN parties with my fellow PC gamers in my local Area and have had a blast.
I've found LAN parties to be a mixture of frustration with technical issues and pure joy at crazy multiplayer escapades( army of ROFLcoptas in Warcraft 3) .
I've Found that Games with little technical barriers to entry like Warcraft 3 and The Original Halo work really well despite, no because of their age.
I've found that altough we planned to play Team Fortress 2 we found we had more fun playing Gang Garrison 2 because we could get more people playing due to its non-existant system requirements.
In my First LAN party we played a ton of LAN multiplayer of the original Halo on PC and we spent vast swathes of time playing a custom gametype of mine ~ DRAW!!! ~ which involves no shields and instantkill pistols on battlecreek with instant spawns, its absolute chaos and this makes it perfect for LAN party.
As well as playing the main Multiplayer part of Warcraft 3 we also played a good round of DOTA which reminded me that DOTA didn't spawn all these clones because it was a cool idea, it spawned all those clones because its great fun.
We also tried to get Quake 3, Red Alert 3, Battlefield Heroes, Heroes of Newerth and DDO to be played at LAN party these games didnt work for a variety of reasons-
  • Quake 3 is pretty old and had some incompatability issues with Vista and Windows 7
  • Red Alert 3 had issues patching and thus we were unable to get enough people into the game
  • Battlefield Heroes and Heroes of Newerth Failed at LAN party for the same reason, they both run over the internet and have no Local Play options available this led to very irritating connection issues.
  • DDO was good but playing it at LAN party reminded me that it works better if its a evening thing with our clan, that we all go on DDO and run some dungeons.

After these 2 LAN parties i have worked out more for my inevitable next LAN party-
  • 6 people is perfect, for the games we play anyway
  • People need decent computers to bring
  • We have an FPS And an RTS we need a coop rpg
  • NO MMO''s they really work against the LAN party
  • No games that run over the net(eg. Battlefield Heroes)
  • Need a solid movie, if not then no movie at all
  • A game "Launch" LAN party would work well(Diablo 3 anyone)

We also watched a movie during the second LAN party, the film in question was Metal Gear Solid: Philantropy which was fantastic and very well received by all.
Anyway off i go to plan for my next LAN party which will likely happen next holidays.

P.S. ive Preordered Borderlands and Look forward to exploring it with my Clan.

So quite a bit has happened in the time since my last post.
Firstly I cancelled my wow Sub due to the fact that ive got exams upcoming and WoW takes up too much of my time, as a balancer to this me and a couple of others in my clan have started playing DDO and started to play Battlefield Heroes again and this has been very enjoyable.
I also finally managed to  (after 5 years of trying) beat the AI in Warcraft 3 :)
A friend lent me Crysis in exchange for my copy of Crysis Warhead, and ive been getting into that.....Well i was Getting into that before me and SL33TBL1ND got Netbotted and all of our EPIC compys were trashed up, we've since had to wipe our compys and ive been getting back onmy feet with an old Favourite of Mine  Battle For Middle Earth 2.

Anyhow im planning to check out Borderlands and Torchlight on release, also does anyone know the Expected time of release for Ron Gilberts "Deathspank"?

So....
Ive been off GB for a while now and thought i should make a blog post, this was partially due to a tree collapsing
ive gotten back into wow recently and had some good things happen and some bad things happen in my life.
First of all I've decided to get back into WoW to see all the content before "cataclysm " wipes it off the face of Azeroth, im currently playin a level 65 warlock and plan to push my way to 80, very much finding new enjoyment in the game as ive never played Alliance before.

Ive managed to get all my schoolwork done earlier than pretty much anyone in my year and that's been great, however today some school'skippin shitbag on the train grabbed my phone(N95, and it was a gift from my father) and dashed off the train as we stopped, this pisses me off and makes me sick that some worthless piece of shit who thinks hes so fucking great for stealing something that someone cared about cause "its kinda cool", this kinda stuff makes me ashamed and regretful that i am part of this "feral generation" as Tycho of penny arcade says, in the long run its not that important, 'its just a phone' but it really angers me and just adds a bunch of hassle i have to go through.

Anyhow ive also gave the new L4D campaign "Crash Course" a try i found it to be intresting how it was structured but this new 2 part structure gave it less memorable moments and made the campaign overall seem a bit bland.
Picked up a bunch of new  games like the Fallout Trilogy, Midevil 2 :Total War and Just Cause and i might try them out in my spare time when im done blasting thorugh WoW content.
Also ive been replaying the original diable in my time offline and that game is as stellar as it was years and years ago.
anyhow this is Ferginator Verifying that i am indeed alive.

Recently i was presented with the choice of deciding on a MOBA for my next LAN party my choices were as follows-
note-i have played an extensive amount of all these games.
  1. DotA- good : easy to set up, large number of heroes /bad : large learning curve
  2. Demigod- good : very accesible, great interface/ bad : not very good multiplayer functionality
  3. Heroes of Newerth- good : small file size, good variety in heroes / bad : still in developement, costs Moolahs!, LAN play not available yet
  4. League of Legends- good :Amazing Art style(youtube videos cant do it justice), will be out for LAN party, free, huge number of heroes/ Bad : difficulty curve inbetween DotA and HoN.
Anyway please comment with your thoughts,
