People love to hate on Johnny R., but do you remember how fucking abysmal EA was before he came on board? Cause I sure as hell do.

He gave us Dead Space, Dragon Age, Mass Effect and BF Bad Company 2. I, for one, will miss you John.

Mass Effect wasn't made by EA, it wasn't even funded by them.

But 2+3 were. When I say ME or DA, I mean the whole franchise.

And then they were kind of responsible for knocking the wind out of DA2 with the dev cycle given.

I mean I still really liked it, but it was not the product it should have been.

So I guess by @enigma777 logic, James Washington Carver invented the peanut butter, right.

DA was in development since 2004. You wanna credit him with the garbage that is DA2, go ahead.

Dead Space was probably already underway in some form or the other when he came in. Now Mass Effect was pretty much the reason they bought Bioware so they could franchise Mass Effect, so sorry no credit here.

Now how in hell are you gonna give him the BF3 credit?! Again a game in a long standing franchise. BF3 would have been made even if Daffy Duck would have the CEO.

Now, I'm not gonna be all hating on him because I actually liked what he did with EA's Partners program, even though that kinda backfired, but don't give him credit when he shouldn't get it.

What do you mean "franchise" Mass Effect? It was always conceived as being a trilogy last I checked...

Oh one thing that never seems to be mentioned in an accounting of Riccitiello's time at EA is how much was paid for Bioware and Pandemic.

All said and done, EA paid $860 million to acquire those two companies. That's a huge amount to acquire one small and one medium size developer - and much of it bet on ToR being a success (based on official statements made at the time about wanting to get into the MMORPG space).

Now I am certainly nowhere even close to being qualified to make this judgement, but I'll make it nonetheless - that seems like an excessive amount to me. Especially given a EA's history where they know they only get a few games of value out of a company before all the talent leaves and the name no longer has value. Did they really think things were going to be different with Bioware?

Along with the $200 mil they sunk into developing ToR, grossly overpaying for these two companies would seem to have contributed to their current situation.

Now here's where it gets weird. As others have mentioned, Riccitiello was one of the co-founders of the private equity firm that previously owned much of Bioware and Pandemic. So Riccitiello leaves his private equity company to become CEO of EA, and then proceeds to buy out these two companies from the equity firm he was recently very much a part of, for a huge sum of money - maybe too much. How is it that no one ever bothered to investigate the hell out of this? Because it sure seems shady to me. Hard not to imagine him getting some sort of back room kick backs from his investment partners that made out on that deal.

How is that "never seems to be mentioned"? It was a BIG DEAL at the time as I recall. People act like that knowledge wasn't well known.

as a matter of fact one of the corp's major long term goals is to get Dave Snider into a Titan, the largest most ridiculous ship in the game

Wait, so you are trying to bribe Dave into the corp that bears the name that you stole from him? You're "paying Dave of" and trying to make it ok by saying that you are going to get him the most expensive ship in the game? You people are unreal....

/mind boggled

I think you're trolling.

Probably already brought up here but it seems a bit ironic that she claims to be against the "damsel in distress" trope yet exploited it to raise more funds.

she did not tell kotaku, destructoid, etc. to write stories about her you know

She did, however, enable comments on her kickstarter video. The only video she EVER allowed comments on, for some mysterious reason!

Long-jumping off a small planetoid in Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, orbiting it one or two times, then landing. All while amazing orchestral music plays.

Crysis 3 lets you be invisible and lets you tag enemies so you can see them until they die.. does the word "cheats" ring any bells for you? It does for me.

You also happen to be an absurdly powerful super soldier in Crysis 3. You're supposed to feel like you have an unfair advantage.

"They're just games" or "It's just the internet" are throw-away excuses that don't really deal with the issue. Patrick respects the Giant Bomb community enough to try and reason with them, and open up a rational discussion when people disagree with his articles, even if they do so in a completely childish way. I respect him for this, and on the whole I don't think he gets the credit he deserves for it, but unfortunately many people on the site aren't prepared to try and have a sensible and balanced discussion on a lot of the issues Patrick tries to discuss.

Why bother attempting to have a "sensible and balanced discussion" if you get drowned out for having a dissenting view?

A Link to the Past.

I'm not going to deny the continuing influence Ocarina of Time has on games made today but i too find it to be complete trash like every 3D Zelda games i've played.

2D Zeldas are the only one that matter to me.

Did you play Ocarina of Time when it first came out? Because OoT was among the first 3D games I ever played, and it totally blew my mind!
