Misadventures in S-Ranks

We all covet the S-rank, the ability of a gamer to completely beat a game. Not just the story but everything the developers deemed important.
So as we all work hard to attain more S-ranks there will inevitably be a game or two that acts like a constant mocking monkey that never leaves our back.

The game: Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution for the Xbox 360

I absolutely love the Civilization series and when I heard that it was coming to consoles I was all in.
A lot of these achievements are super easy, and despite some 3 point achievements, everything balances out after a few playthroughs.
The trouble comes in the form of a handful achievements asking to beat the game on the highest difficulty. Now Civilization, to me, is about a relaxing strategy game where I will dominate and destroy all others. And I do play on higher difficulties so that when I do win my ego is boosted.
But this game offers 4 separate achievements for beating the game on the highest difficulty.
Even after following online guides I am stuck on 3 remaining achievements and about 100 gamerscore trapped in limbo.
Beating the game on 2 of the harder difficulties by domination (military victory) and 1 for beating the game before 1000 AD, which gives you about 100 turns to win.

It's not that these remaining sons of bitches are hard, it isn't that guides don't exist making these much easier to attain.
But in the end I've spent hours trying and always seem to be just that short.

The next game: Forza Motorsport 3
Do you guys have any games you never seem able to S-rank?

Doesn't GRAW have an impossible achievment. Like literally impossible?

I never S-Rank anything, but I really want that damn quest. Anybody know of easy S-Rank games? You know, besides that Avatar thing?

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.  Take you about 5 hours to s-rank, maybe.

Most of the Sega Vintage games are easy to S-Rank

@FinalDasa: Dude beating an opponent by 1200 ad is dam near impossible.  You have to get so lucky to get that.

I've S-ranked Eversion on Steam and Wolfenstein 3D on 360, both were quite easy to completely beat.
I'm just a couple of achievements away from S-ranking Scott Pilgrim and Left 4 Dead 2, but damn is it hard to beat teams on 4v4 versus. Me and my friends always end up having to play against some league of russian gamer-robots from hell, it seems.
And let's not forget beating a campaign on expert, with realism enabled. *crawls into fetal position*

I usually don't s-rank games that require collecting of things. I don't have patience for that -_-

The only downside of Remedy's Alan Wake. What, do they have a collecting fetish over there? God!

left 4 dead 2 did not seem to hard

@foggel: oh god, don't remind me of those fucking thermoses...seriously, how can one man need that many coffee thermoses?

@LiquidPrince:
The problem with King Kong is that you actually have to play the game in full and as easy as that sounds it's far less fun than just going and playing some Disney tie-in game or TMNT.

The games that annoy me that I havent S-Ranked are things like GRAW2 that cheated me out of a bunch of them and I never quite got around to getting all the free for all wins, Lego Rock Band that requires 4 offline players all to 100% a song and an expert guitar achievement and anything that requires shit DLC like the first mass effect and Tomb Raider Underworld.

Mass effect 1. I will never get those last 150 points because I refuse to buy Pinnacle Station.

Forza 3. Solid Gold, the grindiest achievement in that game requires you to drive for about 100 hours total, that might not seem long, but that is excluding loading times and shit like that. I'm not even a big fan of driving games to begin with.

Rocket Riot. First game I have even given up on due to the bullshitness of a boss. Every single (or almost) enemy in the game spawns as you are fighting the boss. the worst are some kamikaze guys that WILL kill you if you aren't paying attention. The boss it self has the ability for every single boss you have previously thought. I'm proud to say i ragequit that game

I finally got around to playing through the first Dead Rising recently, and just thinking about having to grind zombies for hours and hours is frustrating.  And that's only the beginning of the difficult achievments.  :/

I also need to go back and get one last achievement in Oblivion's Shivering Isles, but I don't have access to that game anymore, so I'm like... 20 points away from an S-rank.

Geometery wars 2. I will never s rank it. NEVER.
