I would like to think that they are not trying hard enough to give something new a chance.  Like I said, stop giving dumbed down 360/PS3/PC games and build a game from the ground up, complimenting another game, or just be original. "
I think the Wii will only have dumbed down 360/PS3/PC games a la on-the-rails Resident Evil and Dead Space backstories/prequels. To me, Nintendo is so focussed on attracting casual gamers that they really don't mind/care that there are very few good FPS for the hardcore gamer. I sold my Wii recently because I was tired of waiting for something more. "
Resident Evil and Dead Space are not dumbed down though.   They are good games that tackle the story from a new position - complimentary to the series, and a great idea.  A dumbed down game would be DIRT 2 (an others).  It isn't likely that Nintendo doesn't care, it is just that they don't really do those kind of games and if developers don't want to, then there is nothing they can do about it.  If I took the same position as you I would sell my 360 as it is barely filling my needs, but hey, I can find some fun when cheap. "
Perhaps dumbed down is too harsh a term... I understand full well that they tackle the story from a different perspective, but it's the on-the-rails part that to me, leaves me wanting more. Again just my opinion here. I know if the devs don't want to do these types of games for the Wii then they wont, but I don't think Nintendo is actively pursuing the devs to make Wii versions of FPS found on other platforms.

" First off, Nintendo doesn't dictate what CAPCOM does, secondly, those games aren't "dumbed down" PS360 games, as they're in COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GENRES, and just because those genres don't appeal to you doesn't make them bad, and thirdly, oldschool was talking about FPS specifically. The Wii has plenty of quality unique titles of its own already. You took his statement way out of context there. "
I never said that these games are bad, but IMHO, on-the-rails is, for lack of a better term, dumbed down version of FPS. My examples were a bit off, I'll agree to that.

It was by far the freakiest game that I've ever played. The 'dead' monsters you got use to. But the ending freaked the living hell out me. I'm going to put it down for a few months and then go back on a the hard difficulty level. I found that I always had a stash of weapons and health packs which took away from the survival portion of the game.

I'm at about 40% through and I'm starting to get bored with it. The graphics are great yes, and the dialogue is pretty funny, but I don't feel like the missions are advancing the story. To me, they just seem to be randomly patched together. The most fun I have is mowing down randoms until the cops come, and then try and make a break for it.

I played and beat Okami for the Wii and I was ready to give up after the first 2 or 3 hours because of how slow things started. Afterwards, the story picked up and kept going and I personally felt that it dragged on. I forced myselft to beat it because I had invested so much damn time in it. Having said that, the gameplay was great, albeit a bit too easy. The visual and concept were fantastic.
