The lack of Dragon Age is disturbing.

But isn't there a difference in that case, since your actions directly affect the story, making it more like a game than any movie? Eh, I'll have to wait until the commercials.

If there's one game deserves to be on that list, it's Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

Not surprised they didn't nominate it, though; games with budgets below 'huge fucking pile of money' never get nominated for these kinds of awards. Just look at the recently revealed Annual Interactive Achievement Award winners: not only did Uncharted 2 win the 'Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction' award, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, the game that literally looks like a moving painting, didn't even get nominated(Modern Warfare 2, however, did).

well... look at heavy rain. that's a game, but the script is written as if it was a movie.
PS. I like adventure games, and they are like short story books with pictures...

Dragon Age hasn't a very good writting. It ripped off  most The Lord of the Rings trilogy combined with the previous games from Bioware, and it gets boring often, with too much pointless detail given to the world.

I was suprised to see Wet and X-Men there.

@Video_Game_King: it does. but here's how i look at it: uncharted managed to balance humor and story in such a way that it didn't feel arbitrary. AC2 did not, or as much.

@tiwi: How was Uncharted "GOOOOD"?  It's one of the most unoriginal stories.

Why didn't AC2 get it? Why Uncharted 2? The "movie you can play" thing? It's that, isn't it?

At least it didn't go to Modern Warfare 2.  That was bat-shit crazy and by the end I couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on and honestly I didn't care.  That's fine for game play, but it also reflects on the silliness of the writing.   I can live with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.  While the story was still a bit of a disappointment to me, I completely enjoyed the dialog between the characters.

I've got a feeling that nominees have to join the SWG   and then put themselves forward.
Its likely the dragon age/Arkham Asylum/other good game writers didnt bother to do this.

LOL, does anyone have the one where Bert from Sesame Street is in the back of the car?

Modern Warfare and Wolverine do not deserve to be there. Even though I didn't like the game Brutal Legend was funny and well written and I haven't played Dragon Age so I can't comment on whether I think it should be there or not. I do think that Uncharted 2 should have won regardless of what other games were in the category, sure it was unoriginal but it was good. I think there is too much of an obsession among some people who play games that everything has to be new and completely original, being unoriginal is good a lot of the time.

It's unoriginal, sure. But it is also really well written. Thus I feel this award is justified, even if all the other nominees (with the exception of AC2) were walking jokes.

Seriously, WET and Wolverine? Modern Warfare's story was its weakest point too..
And yeah, where the heck are Dragon Age and Brutal Legend?

How did Wet and Wolverine get nominated for best writing ? Where's Silent Hill & DRAGON AGE ? Gah, nevermind. Uncharted 2 is the deserving winner anyway. Amy Hennig is a brilliant writer and this recognition is long overdue.
