Most Anticipated Games of 2011

2010 was one of the best years ever in gaming, but 2011 is starting to look pretty amazing too.  Here are some of my most anticipated games of the new year.

Edit 3/3/11:  Did some list juggling to reflect how hyped I am closer to these games' release dates, plus added a few I hadn't thought of when the list was created.

List items

  • Watching the trailer for the first time made me well up. My affection for this franchise is unmatched.

  • The Elder Scrolls is the only franchise capable of knocking this down a peg. I can't freaking wait to see how BioWare wraps up this trilogy.

  • Blizzard has said they would like to release Diablo 3 in 2011 if they can. From what I've seen and played at BlizzCon, Diablo 3 is going to be mind blowing. If I had to bet though, I think this will be pushed back to 2012.

  • My favorite fighting franchise is making a return to form, finally.

  • I can't imagine any gamer who isn't going to be chomping at the bit to own this. I expect shortages lasting all year.

  • While there isn't a ton of preview coverage of the game yet, I've already been floored by the digital acting I've seen.

  • This game will either be a masterpiece or it'll be crap. I'll be there on day 1 to find out.

  • How did I forget this? I always have a huge amount of fun with this franchise. This game is going to keep it fresh by taking place in a new region, populated completely by all-new pokemon. The fun of tracking down rare pokemon and building up your team is something I hope I never tire of.

  • Dragon Age 1 made my GotY list in 2009, but the DLC they released in 2010 was extremely bad. The Dragon Age team has definitely lost my trust, so I'm holding my breath that everything they've changed doesn't ruin the game.

  • Saints Row is the game that non-gamers imagine GTA is.

  • He's back! YDKJ is my family's favorite trivia game since the 90's. We'll play this revival constantly.

  • The first game was great. It was one of the few games with a moral alignment system where I didn't feel bad playing a bad guy. I killed a lot of innocent people by shooting them in the face with lightning. I can't wait to do it again!

  • Finally, a Playstation 3 game from the minds behind Persona. I wish the cover art didn't come across as hentai, but I have faith that the game will be worth the embarrassment.

Edit 3/3/11: This was put on the list before I ever saw gameplay footage. Now that I see it's some kind of bizarre platformer rather than the RPG I assumed it was, I know I won't buy it. Maybe Giant Bomb will do an endurance run? That could be interesting.
