How did this get screwed up so badly?

And by "this", I mean retail supply. How the hell does a game that is this anticipated, perhaps surprisingly so, get its shipment fucked up so bad? Several people who pre-ordered it from Amazon are getting their shipments delayed and a vast number of Canadian retailers also got shafted. Because of this, I wasted $6 taking the bus to the store and back as well as 2 hours of my life.

So I was sitting in front of an EB Games for 40 minutes, waiting excitedly for it to open, only to be disappointed when the clerk told another guy who was waiting for Catherine, sitting in front of the store for an hour, that he has no idea when they'll receive the game because the supplier fucked up. I went to a Best Buy and they didn't have it either. I went to a GameStop and encountered two people who also wanted to buy Catherine but were told by the clerk that they didn't get it because the publisher's unreliable and they apparently didn't even set a street date. So now Atlus is essentially saying "Sell it when you get it!" and people who pre-ordered the game, a couple of months ago, might not even get their damn copy. This shortage or problem or whatever is also apparently happening in Canada because they didn't manage to think about making enough bilingual documentation before the game was supposed to ship. How did this happen?

Did anyone else expect to get the game today, only to be Catherine-less?

Edit: I WANTED THIS FUCKING GAME SO BAD, WHY DID THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN.

Somehow I'm not surprised that Atlus underestimated how many games they had to ship. Sorry to hear about that though, I'm sure they'll get it sorted out soon enough.

Posted by wolf_blitzer85

That's a bummer. Just got back from Gamestop with my copy.

Hope it gets all figured out soon for you.

Posted by Rolyatkcinmai

Amazon overnighted mine last night and I assume it's at home right now.

Sorry, buddy. That sucks.

Posted by Turambar

Its kind of odd that the gamestop I preordered at has had the game in stock for a few days already before release.  Just picked it up, playing it now.  Totally rubbing it in here =P

Posted by buft

man that sucks because just earlier i was reading your post about how excited you where. tough break man

Posted by Bocam

Just got both my Xbox 360 and PS3 copies

I did my aprt to help out.  I canceled my order at the last minute while it was being prepped. So somebody who wouldn't have gotten one on time probably will.

Next time, call.

@FluxWaveZ: You should call later today they might have more info

Posted by FluxWaveZ
@Bocam: Yeah, I will. Hell, I'll probably wait outside the store again tomorrow. And every other day until I get it.

I'm not getting mine until the 29th D: stupid Europe!

why not just order it from amazon

Posted by ChrisTaran

Just got mine in the mail from Amazon about an hour ago. Sorry to hear you're having problems getting your copy :(

  1. Because I had pre-ordered the game in the store before it was even available on Amazon.
  2. Because I've never had any problem with day 1 purchases at the EB Games I go to.
  3. Amazon is also having a hell of a lot of trouble supplying people who ordered the game from there, like I said in the OP.

I went to Gamestop when it opened and the whole rack was full of 'em. Of course, no one in my neighborhood buys games like this.

Posted by Junpei

I preordered the special edition from Amazon and the status on it still says "Shipping Soon". We'll see. Sucks if it is late though.

...Now that's just mean!

Aw that sucks, man. Kinda weird that a big game like this has to go through with these kinds of screw-ups.

Too bad I still gotta wait for the European release, hearing some of you duders already getting your hands on this game ain't making it better either. I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME TOO!!!

Posted by CosmicQueso

Shoulda just ordered from Amazon. =P

Posted by BadNews

I preordered the special edition and now I'm hearing they didn't get many because the special edition was taken off the reserve list at gamestop before the demo was even released. Now I am kinda afraid to open my copy. D:

Mine just showed up ten minutes ago.

No dickish ''get over it, go do something productive while you wait  instead of complaining'' post thus far... I'm impressed! Anywhoo get over it, and go do something productive while you wait instead of complaining.

owch, that makes me wanna check and make sure mines in..

...Catherine was even the game that pushed me to get an HD monitor (specifically the Asus VH238H) which JUST NOW ARRIVED FROM AMAZON. Heh, awesome.

I hope all of you who have gotten the game are having fun with it (or are going to).

Call the day before to see if they received it?

Woke up to an email from Amazon saying my "Love is Over Edition" was delayed and no new time for delivery. I ordered the game a couple of months ago and now am worried about being downgraded to s standard edition. I guess the love is really over.

I had heard reports of shipment problems yesterday, so even if I had called and they told me they hadn't received it yesterday, there could have been a possibility they received it this morning.

Canadian postal strike is always the answer

Posted by Rolyatkcinmai

I feel bad because I probably won't even get around to opening my copy for a good long time, and I have it.

Posted by SixtyXCelph

According to Amazon's website, mine's at home by the rear door.  Just another five hours of work and then I totally get to play it.   Shitty that it's running into such issues, though.  Definitely agree that Atlus probably didn't realize just how popular they are, at least with the Giant Bomb community, haha.

Posted by Apathylad

Yeah, this whole situation is terrible. The Amazon delay is particularly frustrating to me since I recently paid for Amazon Prime. It sucks paying for the premium membership and not getting any hint of when I will receive my game.

But retailers don't get shipments the morning of release, they gotta be inventoried, takes a little time.

Either way it's a bummer, but plan ahead yo. Canadian EB Games and Gamestops always get like 1 copy of those kinds of games. Lord knows I was waiting for two weeks for my Tales of Symphonia pre-order to make it in. That was the last time I dealt with them.

Try ordering it online?

Oh... I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

At this point, I'm not sure ordering online would do much good, though. Amazon, particularly the Candian branch, has delayed several orders and I ordered the Deluxe Edition, which seems to be especially unavailable. Reluctantly, I think I'll just have to wait it out.

@FluxWaveZ: No sexy pillowcase for you!

Amazon canada is pretty unreliable. Kinda depends what city you live in but it's possible some of the last remaining mom n' pop game shops carry this sort of thing. In Toronto we got the Game Centre, who would totally stock it if they could get some copies in for themselves. Might be that the government is restricting shipments on that game because of the lack of bilingual documentation, which I'm pretty sure is law.

I know, it sucks for Europeans that have to wait even longer to be able to play the game, but it's a relatively different situation. This is more of a case of something that should have happened, but didn't. Europe's is a case of something that's going to happen, but later on.

My Gamestop had 6 preorders on PS3 but only got 3 games in.

But I'm sure everyone will bitch at Gamestop about it.

To be honest, I doubt it's ever gonna be released here in a serious manner. It'll be the same as Tales of Vesperia likely. A mediocore initial launch, then you can only buy copies for £60 or more ($100)

woow that sucks, I just hope that my copys come even if it only says preparing order. Is it 360 or ps3 that is hard to get? because I pre orderd ps3.

To my knowledge, it's both.

I wonder... has every single big retailer in Canada not received Catherine? If so, this can't be good for their sales...
Posted by natetodamax

I preordered mine off Amazon and they shipped it last night. It's a few miles away from me right now. I guess I got lucky. It sucks that this seems to be a widespread issue.
