Not much talk about this, huh.

At least on Giant Bomb. It's weird. I know this is essentially a re-release of a game that originally came out earlier this year, but I didn't figure there would be only one new thread about it upon its release, and not a major one at that. Do people care that little about it?

It seems that those I'm seeing online are relatively proficient at the game. Because of this, I'd assume that most of those who bought UMvC3 today had bought MvC3 earlier on and had probably played online quite a bit, like me. And I don't know what I was expecting, but this is more UMvC3. I feel kind of disappointed by that. This may be because I suck with Phoenix Wright, or because most people I've played online choose a same character in their team (like Vergil), or because I feel forced to play with my old MvC3 team to be decent... or because I realize that I'd need to be much more dedicated to this game to win consistently online. That said, I felt compelled to play "just one more match" over and over again earlier on, so maybe I don't dislike the game as much as I might think.

It's an updated version of a game that already came out this year. Combine with the general... lack of MvC 3 fandom on Giant Bomb and the fact that this month is already packed with significant releases and it seems fairly evident why there isn't a ton of discussion on this game. To be fair though, I do want to know how Phoenix Wright is, even if I have the sinking suspicion that he will be one of those "difficult to use" types with all his different modes and whatnot.

Marvel is just not a game I am any good at. I would rather watch a steam once people get good with the new characters. I'm hype for KOF 13 next week though.

There are so many amazing games out right now, and I mean one right after another, I'm not at all surprised it hasn't gotten much attention.

Yeah good point, that's definitely a factor Assassin's Creed, Saints Row, Halo, etc.

...plus Skyrim still new, Modern Warefare, etc.

@StarvingGamer: Did SRK just added Mortal Kombat, I remember I avoided that site because there were a lot of MK trolls there, but it seems better now that i took a quick peek...it might've been another site...

Yeah too many big time draining releases out right now. It's ok, you can always go to SRK where shit is popping off. I've been spending a majority of my time on their forums and making my Ultimate Haggar database.

Nope, capcom really screwed themselves with this one.

They really could have patched the balance changes and released DLC packs. But to do this within 9 months? They lost people. Especially when compared to a lot of other games out.

and if they had, it would have cost more than 40 bucks and everyone would instead be bitching about how expensive all the DLC is.

But I wouldn't have bought every stupid character they put out. I would have bought Doctor Strange and Hawkeye, Frank West and Strider.

And that collector's edition game I just bought wouldn't have been rendered useless and I would still be playing. Like everyone else would be.

They put a barrier up when it didn't need one.

Good point, they probably saw how poorly Jill and Shuma sold and seeing how they chose lame characters they probably did it this way to make their money. No Cyclops, no Namor, no Archangel, no NOTHING!

but seriously, ive been playing this all day it seems, not much else to say...yet... lol

@ricetopher: There was plenty of discussion back when MvC3 first came out. The forums were active.

And it would surprise me enormously if KoFXIII manages to have more discussion here than UMvC3 has had.

I don't think MvC3 had as big of a community here on Giant Bomb, and most of the people who play fighting games here have a hardon for SF4.

Add onto that the whole only 9 months later thing and being released in probably the single busiest week of game releases, I'm not surprised its not getting a lot of talk around here.

I hope to see plenty of discussion about KOF13 next week though ;)

I think online is still bad.
I've actually been having a rather pleasant experience online. With the exception of a couple matches against people in Mexico, I haven't had any lag issues during a match. However, each time I try to join a Player Match the quick way I get a message akin to "Couldn't find a player", so I need to set up a lobby or enable the request matching in Arcade mode.

@xobballox: I've not played MK, but the AI in UMvC3 seems to be much better, at least on Very Hard, compared to the original game. So it should be challenging enough if you want that.
I am getting around hella frames of lag wired and wireless with local players with the connection uninterrupted.

I want to get this, but I have sucked at all 2D fighting games besides Mortal Kombat, which I would rank myself as "alright" at. Is playing AI at least as fun as it is in Mortal Kombat 9? Because, like I said, I really want this, but there's no way I'll be able to be competitive online and therefore will not play it online.

It was probably the quick look that might have proved discouraging. But that's an unlikely theory. A more plausible reason is that the major gaming outlets are not really giving much coverage as vanilla was.
