Good that they've apologised and taken responsibility. Other than, y'know, an adequate service, you can't ask more than that.

Well, you could ask for a game that cost you $60 to work upon being installed on launch day, but...

...PC gaming, right?

Uncharted is terrible, so that one. Poor controls, terrible story, reminiscent of Spielbergian trash. It's set videogames back this generation and severely limited what they can be.

I don't like metacritic or rottentomatoes for similar reasons. A lot of people just look at the number and replace that with an opinion even before trying a product. Just because a film has like a 90% or whatever on RT doesn't mean it's good, it mostly means that it's crowd pleasing and/or relatively inoffensive. To be contemporary, Argo is a great example of this. I haven't check its RT score in a while, but I saw the film opening day and while it was enjoyable it was just kind of pedestrian. Not thematically rewarding or even all that engaging, just an easy way to spend two hours. When I walked out I said to myself "that's the crowd-pleasingest crowd pleaser I've seen in a while, and of all the movies I've seen so far this year it's the one I could probably recommend to anyone and have no reservations about it because it's just this competently made heist movie." So yeah, in a way that's a positive review, and if that's how the majority of critics felt (I'm not sure, I didn't really read many reviews of it) then its RT score would obviously be off the charts despite it not being all that special or interesting. A RT score could mean something is good, just like a highly ranked game on Metacritic could be good, but to find that out one would have to either find reviewers generally aligned with their tastes or play/watch the product.

In a modern context this becomes even more troubling because some people will see a score of like 75 or whatever and just assume that it's garbage because it doesn't have a 90. When it comes to RT I've found that films in the mid to low 80s all the way down to the 50s tend to be the most engaging and accomplished films because many have a strict artistic vision and are much more focused on expanding one's cultural palate, and as such, in my opinion, are more rewarding. But it's so easy for people to point at an aggregate number and feel like there's some sort of legitimate science behind it as proof, which is particularly troubling in mediums where it's already tough to strike a balance between objectivity and subjectivity.

MGS 2. After that FF IX. Then FF VIII. Next either MGS 3 or PeaceWalker.

People who hate MGS2 remind me of people who hate FFVIII, both the best entries in their respective series. They both do more the narrative and thematically push forward their respective genres and series than all the other entries combined, even if they aren't the most mechanically innovative.

@mosespippy: Hmm, I think that's around where I stopped. Not harm popping it back in and restarting I guess, it definitely seems like a game I would love.

I need to give Valkyria another shot. I love strategy games, and at least like anime, but didn't like much about VC at all. Just felt like there were a ton of cutscenes/comic book sequences telling a story I didn't care about when I just wanted to play. Felt like the actual gameplay time was a fraction of the time I spent listening to the story. But I also didn't get super far, so perhaps that changes. It didn't after like three hours though, so I just stopped playing. Perhaps I'll pop that in while I wait for the big March games to release.

I agree with the person who said Radiant Historia for sure though. A great RPG, I actually prefer it to Chrono Trigger (which people won't agree with, but whatever). I need to check out that Fragile Dreams thing too.

MGS2 is the best game I've ever played, so probably that option.

MGS2 > MGS > MGS4 > MGS3

All fantastic. Not sure why people are so down on the MGS fiction, thematically it's some of the most complex I've seen across all mediums. The text and subtext are both so rich. The complaint I've always heard about 2 is that it's too difficult to follow, but I didn't find it all that hard to keep track of, it seems fairly straightforward as long as you pay attention to the cut scenes. What I love about MGS, aside from the thematic depth that is so lacking in even the best of other games, is that everything is self contained. It's not like the junk Valve or Blizzard pull, littering fiction in ARGs or extended fiction, or the moral simplicity of something like Mass Effect. The scripts in MGS games are so tight, focused, and layered that I'm not sure how it being a little heavy handed can be considered a bad thing. Well, aside from the sad realization that, even though the games reflect on postmodern tradition and blend that with traditional story telling to create a stunningly underappreciated hybrid text (though I guess hybridity can be considered bad as easily as it can be considered good), any form of sincerity is laughed at even when it does make large artistic strides.

@alpha_rudy@hotmail.com: Easier said than done, unfortunately. My 360 is no where near my computer, and as someone who hasn't upgraded to a smartphone and doesn't own a tablet this would require a lot of running throughout the house for something that should be as easy as pausing and pulling up a menu.

Do people really consider Fire Emblem to be a JRPG?

I'm probably getting Pandora's Tower, currently have it pre-ordered anyway and thinking I'll pick it up (missed out on The Last Story, but it seems like those are still easy enough to find, unlike Xenoblade which is jacked up high in price. Both Pandora and TLS are XSEED though, while Xenoblade is Nintendo. Not sure if that means anything in terms of how many get printed. Thankfully I picked Xenoblade up right around launch when I saw GB's QuickLook) on the off chance it goes scarce. Not sure how great it's supposed to be though, I've heard chatter that it (and Last Story) isn't that great. Passed on NNK at $50 the past week for Pandora's so hopefully it's pretty good. Or at least has a decent secondary market if it's not by being a post-WiiU release Wii game from Japan.
