What is with this trend recently?

No michael ironside as sam fisher any more, and this too?

Their voices are pretty iconic, I'm sure the game will rock but it's a sad change.

OK that's it, I have to say it:

Fuck this kind namby-pamby indie game.

I'm sick of all the games in recent years that want to make me "feel" something. Just shut up.

...

We don't have to agree on this, I'm just giving my opinion. Most of the comments so far on this article have been very positive. I don't think it hurts the discussion for someone to give an alternative view.

A hypocrite is someone who defends their right to speak freely about what they want in the next breath after telling someone else doing the same thing to shut up.I want to read what you have to say, but hey, try and be nicer about it?

Thanks so much Patrick and Jennifer.

I have friends in my life that live with depression and I'm used to running as support for them, so this game's story is really familiar. It's super helpful to be able to play a game like this and have more of an understanding of what goes on in their minds during the everyday stuff.

So this hit home for me, really really hard. Thank you for talking about this.

"Originally we thought it would be a short, experimental game set in the universe of Amnesia"

...wait, what? Am I the only one that totally missed that detail before? I thought it was always supposed to be a proper sequel... at least now they're saying it'll actually be a full game I guess...

I've been able to soldier through almost any game, but I think White Day finally did me in just recently. It's a pretty old korean horror game for PC. Its save game works through items. You need to find pens in the environment, then use it on a notepad to save the game. Pens are single use items, and if you run out of pens, you can't save the game anymore until you find another pen. I got to a point where I stupidly used all my pens before a long series of really difficult puzzles and enemies, and there are no more pens anywhere in the area I have access to. So I gave up on it.

Granted it's a pretty dated game/save system, and it's got that nice unforgiving old school feel to how it works. But my experience was just too tedious.

Thanks so much everyone for the responses! Very appreciated!

, haha, it's pretty unusual for a child to call out one of their parents for having a short attention span.

, one of my buddies taught bejeweled 3 to his mom and now she can wipe the floor with him at it... gotta be careful!

, disguising them as books is actually a pretty smart approach. I should try that sometime... and I'm glad I'm not the only one that liked that game. But I can understand why other people can't put up with it long enough to see the stuff we like it for. Parts of that game were nigh unplayable until I learned the ass-backwards way to get through it.

, do you mean the Marble Hornets stuff? Yeah, I started digging into it; it's pretty easy to lose a few hours to it if you're not careful. I haven't looked at any other series besides Hornets...

@JazGalaxy: You're looking at it solely from a gameplay perspective which, you're right, it's a pretty shit game if that's what you're playing it for. But the acclaim I give it is twofold; the writing and the characters (the voice acting, specifically). They gave Lee just the right amount of malleability. It's pretty hard to step into the shoes and imagine yourself as someone with binary morality like Cole or Sheppard, who either burns an orphanage down or saves kittens from drowning in a river. It doesn't take much interaction at all to imagine yourself as Lee.

These characters are believable people and that's a massive feat, from a writing perspective.
