Ubisoft's presentation was exactly what I expected it to be. Do any of us who post on a video game website forum really expect to be wowed by presentations anymore? Most of us have followed this industry for years (presumptuous?), and should be able to recognize the trajectory of big publishers. Maybe a rabbit hops out of Master Chief's helmet in a few weeks, but the industry is past the point of awe and wonder for longtime fans. The surprise of new experiences are mainly coming from indies and smaller publishers that only generate press after release -- I feel the same way about movies atm.
Paul Ryckert's presence always a welcome on-off! But as someone who's lived in NYC for the past six years and is originally from St. Louis, this podcast was particularly enjoyable.
Hearing about or seeing places that are regular parts of my life instantly elevates my interest in otherwise mediocre TV shows (eg. Mr. Robot, Broad City), movies, and music (eg. Joey Badass). I wonder what psychology underlies that response.
