A Huge Thank You To Giant Bomb

I remember when I first heard the Hot Spot and saw On The Spot. My mind was blown and ever since - almost ten years back - I never missed a Hot Spot until the Bombcast came along. Thinking back, it's weird how a couple of duders who I never met inspired me to really follow my dreams. Ryans passing affected me in a way I never thought anything like that would. But in some weird way it made me want to do this even more. You know, to show what I learned and tell people from where. Last couple of months have been both hard and amazing. I managed to get an internship at the Swedish Public Radio. I've been talking about video games on air to hundred thousands of people. And next week, I'll be talking about Harvest Moon. Which is why I'm writing this.

Back in the Whiskey days I called in on one of those Unpofessional Fridays. Dave took my call and I remember us talking about great soundtracks. Then Ryan shouted and the next thing I knew we were talking about Harvest Moon on air. That gave me a lot of inspiration, so for me to talk about Harvest Moon on air again will be a special moment. It's hard to discribe how it feels.

But hey, duders. I know there are lot of you out there dreaming about working in this industry. I am by no means in it, but this site and the crew got me to a place I never ever could've dreamt of. If someone in the Bomb Squad sees this - Thank you, guys! :)

That's awesome duder! Congratulations on your success!

I totally understand how you felt/feel. When I discovered this site a few years back, I realized it was something special pretty quickly when I saw the amazing, intelligent, and insightful community and equally amazing and hilarious staff (and obviously the Endurance Runs as well). I say this pretty frequently when discussing this site with friends, but I find it truly amazing that a site started by a few dudes who love games and are purely interested in quality coverage could become so influential that a major company like CBS would acquire it and allow those guys to maintain full control over the content that hits the site. As I have worked my way up through my Computer Science major, it has become increasingly clear to me that one of my serious career goals is to get a job at CBSi in which I'd have the opportunity to work on this site. I really believe in the work these guys do and the way they do it, and would love to someday be a part of it, even if it isn't in the spotlight.

Anyway, I don't mean to hijack you blog post, so I'll end my post by just restating what you already said: many thanks to the Bomb Squad, both for keeping all of us entertained as well as being an inspiration to many of your followers.

Cool dude.

I sure do miss some of the nonsense of those Happy Hours. But most of all, Radio Dave and his ability to maintain a ten minute conversation about pretty much anything.

I've gone back to school to learn how to make games and pursue a graphic design degree. I'm pretty sure Giant Bomb is responsible.

I think I may have just been watching that one? Was it one of the long calls that came in after the show was supposed to be off-air, but Dave was just talking to a random user for like 10 minutes and then Pascual for another 5?

Good luck, duder!

You thought it was another one of those suicide posts, right? Man, I came into this expecting the same.

This was much better.

@fruitcocoa: Congrats on your new gig. By far my favorite part of the job was screening calls during happy hour :)

Congrats man!

Yeah it is pretty amazing when you look back on the way how things came together for this crew. Like you I remember the golden era of Gamespot :).

Good luck on your internship!

I'll let Batman sum up the face a lot of us probably made. "Oh god n- oh wait this is awesome."

That's super cool you get to talk about video games to all of those people and then on top of that you get to talk about one that gives you those super awesome Giantbomb special feelings.

Congratulations on the gig, are you talking about P3 Spel by any chance?

Either way, always great to see people following their passion and being successful at it.
