Why have I never heard anyone call this game hard, yet Demon's Souls has the reputation it does? Stalker is multitudes more difficult.

Oh, and I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This game is the true Fallout 3. The setting is slightly skewed, but it's still a far better fit.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ain't easy. I played on normal and used Quicksave often and died over and over and over. Survive or die bitch.

At some point I did feel like a bad ass. It took me a while to get there.

@Claude: Think I'm getting there. I've got some endurance anomaly things equipped, so I can sprint across the wasteland with a full arsenal in my backpack. Finding an accurate assault rifle instantly makes things worlds easier, as well.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. really likes to alternate here. I felt a badass the moment I got into Agroprom. I also turned into a pussy immediately I got into those fucking sewers.

Good stuff.

@Ghostiet: I also hate how every time I stock up on ammo for my shiny new gun, within an hour I'm hundreds of enemies, and none of them drop the right ammunition. And that's after I've stocked up pretty much one bullet short of a full inventory. And the game really could have done well with a repair feature. The bullet thing is actually kind of cool, but seeing my kickass armor turned to shit after a couple hours of use is really pretty lame.

@FunExplosions:

I believe a repair feature was added in one, if not both, of the "expansions". The funniest part? In the first build, armor didn't degrade at all. They forgot about it.

So yeah, that's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for you. Still, I'm bummed out the sequel is coming to consoles, too, since most of the game probably will have to be streamlined and that's kind of robbing it from its charm.

@Ghostiet: Yeah, that's a bummer. I was thinking about how I have to stop and find good cover then take the risk of opening my inventory to use a medkit. I like that. Makes the game harder and feel more authentic. I'd have to assume they'd cut stuff like that right out of the next game. I think I'm good though, as long as they don't switch to regenerating health. It's all over at that point.

edit: Er, I mean, the health does regenerate in Stalker, but only really slowly, and only when your stomach is full (something else they'll probably take out).

I just beat the game earlier tonight. Kind of the ending(s) I'd expect from the smaller team. And that mid-game plot twist is foreseeable from minute 1. Thinking about buying Call of Pripyat. Sounds like it's a giant improvement.
