@Breadfan: CK2 is way way easier to get into. I play CK2 all the time and love it. I went and grabbed some other Grand Strategy games from Paradox, they were way over my head. All of them are good games, for me Ck2 was just the most fun.
working on study guides for my finals, it's almost 4:30 in the AM here on the east coast. Thankfully my professors make class optional during dead week. I have the Deadly Premonition ER on my laptop, Brad and Ryan have kept me strong during this all nighter
AC3 - Never grabbed me, felt like I was forcing myself to play it. Shame, I loved AC2
X-Com - Liked the game, but I beat it once and never felt the need to touch it again. Weird since strategy games are my go to.
Honorable Mention: Mass Effect 3 - Game was amazing... until that ending... boy that ending. The updated one was so-so, I was more disappointed with the way choices were factored in and not necessarily the actual presentation.
However I worry about the game being able to rise out of the gigantic shadow cast by the original Bioshock. After all the original game had that fantastic setting and story, but the game-play wasn't anything special (plasmids aside).
For infinite to establish itself for me it needs to have setting, story, and game-play locked down and solid.
Only if the manual is loaded with awesome lore. Most games just need to cut the tutorials time in half, exploration and discovery can help a game immensely, just don't leave the player with too little information to actually play. One of my favorite experiences this generation was Dark Souls, it taught me the basics, then loosed me into the game. The more I played the more I learned, and that feeling of accomplishment just got more and more gratifying every time.
Haven't played FC3 yet, it apparently comes with my new graphics card so I'll be a little late to that party. Mass Effect is around 6 or 7, it's competing with Hotline Miami, Spec Ops the Line, and Borderlands 2.
