I played a lot of Nethack. It's fascinating to see just how much that game was taking verbatim from Rogue, even with the nonsense named scrolls. Same with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, I guess, which i...

It's a real bummer Abby's leaving. I hope she doesn't feel like the community didn't appreciate her. I feel like the negative voices and criticism always seem the loudest because people who are fan...

@vinny: As someone who is familiar with 3.5, but not 5E, I personally didn't mind the tour through character creation. I feel like CRPGs are a bit hard to show off, since a chunk the audience probably...

@grayfox1210: I also forgot Dark Sun, which is actually a pretty cool setting -- fantasy wasteland ravaged by magic, so everyone became psyhics instead because that's way different than magic and cer...

Baldur's Gate is in Forgotten Realms (Faerun). Neverwinter and Planescape also take place in Forgotten Realms, though Planescape is technically its own setting.Ravenloft is in Greyhawk, which is like ...

I can't believe it. I recently watched Behind The Curve and my reaction to this video is making me understand how the flat earthers felt when their $20,000 gyroscope consistently told them the Earth...

I found FF7's writing super corny during the first section, but it eventually found its footing. I ended up really enjoying a lot of the dialogue as the game went on. That said, the early going felt...

Best party member still MIA.

@failburn: I'd be interested in Broken Age, if its available.

FF7 remake is so damned good. I get why Vinny is having a bit of a struggle with the early going, though, because that game has an issue I've only ever seen in television series where the writing star...

What's the requirement to actually have a "date" with the Vault City girl? I remember the outcome and some of the dialogue options being one of my favorite throwaway gags.

Build is fine. Folks who have played this game a dozen times are forgetting that that it's both not that hard and was designed to be beatable by a large variety of builds because the devs knew most pe...

I see these janky PC adventure games and can only think that we need some Vinny in this mix.

New Vegas and Fallout 2 are the greats in the series. The Bethesda games are missing the je nais se quoi of the Black Isle/Obsidian entries. Or I guess it's not mysterious: just missing really great...

@binarygod: I mean in the sense that it's primary themes are more relevant today than they were in '97. Shinra is a global megacorporation and fascist oligarchy that constantly engages in fake news to...

Also, Jeff's memory is really selling Cloud's arc short. He's not a reluctant hero in any traditional sense: SPOILER

Brad describes it as "knowingly contemporary," but that's been FF7's story all along. In fact, Shinra engaging in truly bonkers levels of public manipulation and propaganda is pretty integral to key m...

I've been playing a lot of LW2 recently, having had the same Phoenix Point disappointment followed by urge for XCOM as Vinny, and had a mission where I had 10 rounds to fight through 5 pods of sectoid...

XCOM 2 ruled. This thread is full of lunatics. The timed missions were a smart addition because it meant you couldn't just overwatch spam and had to actually engage with the systems.

Vinny may have already seen 'em, or be past kevlar, but CapnBub's Accessory Pack and Symmetrical Kevlar Arms are my must have XCOM 2 cosmetic mods. CapnBub's is damn near professional quality.
