So, Game On and Shut Up And Play have been canceled. Originally given twelve weeks to prove itself as a viable set of shows, they were recently extended for another six weeks. But almost immediately after that (as of a couple days ago), they were both cancelled. Based on comments from Leo during Security Now's recording and the events of the LAN party a few days before, it seemed to viewers that it was due to the possibly unwise playing of Cards Against Humanity (a game that generates some vile phrases) which offended some (or one?) late night viewer(s).

Leo is pretty open with the audience about behind his business and has since explained that the sudden cancellations were entirely financial. The show is the most expensive one on the network to produce (by a large factor - $25k to $50k/mo) and didn't yet have enough of an audience to bring in a positive flow of money, so it was the logical choice to chop to meet financial needs. I'm sure the events on Sunday didn't help things, but it sounds like it was being axed no matter what. :/

As per his comments on Twitter, today, "it was too expensive to produce; not enough people watched" and "gaming isn't for twit".

I still hope the LAN party broadcast idea becomes a "thing" elsewhere, though. It was a blast, even when you weren't participating in the LAN and were just watching late hours on a Sunday night, when you were trying to extend the weekend as long as possible, before the Monday drudgery reared itself.

Here are two justin.tv links. You'll have to skip ahead to the exact time codes once you load them up:

Can you give me another link for the "incidents" that were broadcast?

What was the games name? I've been searching for it for 30mins now and can't find it. Hector and "the game" were showcased in the same week.

http://gaming.wikia.com/

I've occasionally come across wiki pages for gaming, but after reading http://venturebeat.com/2012/03/12/wikia-is-biggest-numer-one-gaming-site/ I realized that they are hiring gaming journalists to curate the gaming section. Thoughts on Wikia's business move?

Fuck this. Fuck, fuck, fuck this. Assholes, why did you buy more memberships? Why, why, why? Now GB is owned by Gamespot. I work in media and while newspapers are suffering, at least we make money. Online makes no money. Only the top 100 sites see any serious coin. Sigh, :(

Peace out and good luck. The reason I came to Whiskey is to avoid places like Gamespot.

Wow...I'm scared, but I will stick with you guys. You've never done me wrong.

Sad that the whiskey family is breaking up. Gonna miss those guys a bunch.

You guys are forgetting that Gamespot fired Jeff in the first place. WHY DO YOU THINK GIANTBOMB EXISTS!

I may be way off mark here, but wasn't the first Fallout game a sort of spiritual succesor/remake of Wasteland?

Yup. Everyone who complained about DA2/Mass Effect 2 and 3 and the shittyness of their RPG elements needs to go donate right now.

@Morningstar said:

Not interested.

I was 2 when the first one came out. No connection, no money.

Looks like Wasteland 2 may not make it...

Good luck with that. All gaming laptops are massive beasts and cost a lot of money. It's like me wanting a large, cheap house in a good neighborhood.

@BelligerentEngine: It wasn't just the ignorant argument he engaged in.

It was also his disgusting behavior ogling this poor girl on a live stream. I mean he was straight up acting like a fucking pig. He was so out of control with it that his male peers felt comfortable enough to contribute. They objectified her, talking about her breasts, openly enthusiastic about hacking her phone and finding "goodies", when she had to use the bathroom he asked what she was going to do in there, and openly discussed fantasy scenarios of her wrestling other girls.

Sorry bud, that is by definition sexual harassment and that is disgusting. And I, nor anyone else should feel bad calling him a fucking pig. If he has any modicum of shame left he won't ever get in front of a camera again until we forget about his atrocious behavior or better yet, changes his attitude towards women. You can't be a representative of a professional gaming event and act like that.

If he was apart of the underground, that's fine. Stay there.

And he looks like a stereotypical neckbeard. I hope MSM doesn't see this, or they will have a field day.

Fantastic read Patrick. Really glad your on the GB team as you bring more interesting news stories to light than other publications/sites who are more worried about getting hits for random pointless content. As for the main article itself this just brings to light how immature some people can really be. And how we need to better educate the younger generations to weed out this king of mentality. Also at the people who are accusing GB for making similar comments you have to look at the context at which they are made. The GB team set out to entertain and inform us at the same time so sometimes they may say something that might seem offensive but it's a JOKE. They do not believe what they are saying is factually correct, only funny which is what a joke is meant to be, it's not what they truly believe.

Whenever I see this guys pic: http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/9/93384/2139987-screen_shot_2012_02_02_at_4.11.48_pm.png

I automatically think "Neckbeard". Yes, it's an "insult", but remember, that is how a lot of people view the gaming community and if this story becomes mainstream, god forbid, imagine the backlash.
