Even then cant say it throttled, but Im not sure how to check for that other then seeing the PC start to lag badly.

You can download programs like HWMonitor. They run in the background and monitor things like voltage, temps, fan speed and cpu/gpu usage. MSI Afterburner also has similar functionality, but not as complete as HWMonitor.

@chaser324:

Great question, I would assume if the rumor turns out to be true, it will most certainly delay PS4 Neo.

Look into Mini ITX before settling on a laptop. You will pay twice as much for three times less the performance if you go with a laptop.

I'm looking to get into PC gaming and I'm thinking a gaming laptop might be the best fit for me. I don't have a ton of extra space in my apartment for a desktop and using my TV is difficult since I live with my girlfriend and can't always tie up the TV. My budget is around $1000-1500. I don't really care about battery life since I'll mainly be using it near an outlet. I'm also not looking to run top of the line graphics. Mainly smaller games and stuff like Darkest Dungeon, Enter the Gungeon, and Stellaris. I would like something that will be good for a few years though. If anyone has any I advice I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks

The GTX 950 is severely under powered and should not be a consideration. If you can stretch out your budge a bit, I would look into purchasing a used GTX 970. You can find them for $200 on Craigslist and Ebay. For 50 bucks more than the cost of a GTX 950, you can double your frame rate with the 970.

I want to play Stellaris as well as Civ 6 when it comes out but my video card just is questionable. I currently have a GTS 450 that I bought in 2010. I haven't bought computer parts since 2011, so I feel woefully out of the game but I would like to get a new video card to tide me over until I have to replace my whole machine.

So, I'm here to beg you guys for help getting a new card. My limits are as follow, I would like to spend less than $150 and it needs to work with this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131623

I don't need top of the line, just something to get my computer to work for a few more years.

Some more information on the rest of my computer:

My power supply is 730w, my processor is an Intel Core i5-661 Clarkdale Dual-Core 3.33 GHz, I have 4GB of ram (that will be my next upgrade) and I'm running Windows 10.

Thank you for any advice you guys give. I'm so lost.

While it's true that running your CPU at 90c won't damage it, you run the risk of your CPU throttling it's speed to limit heat output. Intel CPU's begin to throttle down significantly when they approach 100c. (Your 4.2ghz CPU becomes a 1ghz CPU) As a general rule of thumb, you should never run your CPU at above 80c. As far as upgrading your CPU to the newer Skylake's, plenty of benchmarks show that this may be a wise decision. It is dependent on the game however, games that are heavily physics based will need more CPU horsepower.

Newer CPUs are designed to be able to run hotter. If it's staying under 90 while stressed there's really nothing to worry about.

Terrible news for us customers, Nvidia is closing in on 60% market share. Even though I haven't owned an AMD/ATI card is quite some time, I still recognize the need for a strong 2nd player in the marketplace. I hope this isn't true.

I have a hard time taking this OP seriously. He feels disgusted with Sony because they want to update their hardware? What is wrong with people?

To be fair, a few members of GB editorial have been involved in some controversy regarding ethics over the years. As disappointing as that was, the majority of them are good honest people.

I know you just got rid of it, but the 2013 Nexus 7 is probably the best choice right now. A new one is only $149. I would stay away from Samsung, TouchWiz is so slow, especially if you're used to stock android.
