Since GOG is in Poland, you can actually get play the game on the 16th around 6 o'clock pm US EST. If you predownloaded, you just have to download the installer.

You can still play as mage through your companions if you wanted to. I also played as rogue, but the limited viewpoint would not let me target enemies who were behind the wall or even very far away. I have to move my mage up, pause the game then target the person I want to hit.
