@stryker1121: Well, no, these things used to go in cycles, the top 4 publishers and their investors spent billions at the beginning of the seventh gen to destroy the thing that kept that cycle going, the mid tier. By raising the entry barrier to competing in the market, the out priced the dangerous competition that would historically disrupt the incumbents with a low budget yet kick ass game in a genre/style no one knew they wanted really bad.

So now that the top publishers control the entire market, and make more money per game than any other time in history.... They STILL need year on year growth on profits to satisfy their insatiable shareholders.

So now evrey game that's of a genre that CANT be completely abused and broken to squeeze every last drop out of any sucker that might play it is turned into one that can, and if it doesn't work, is killed off. That's because being a successful money making game is not enough. If its not the kind of game that can make THE MOST MONEY, it is considered an opportunity cost, because instead of using the time to make that critically acclaimed survival horror game that only sold 4 million for a handsome profit, they could have used it for a service game with lootboxes and whales spending 15,000 dollars on trying to get that armor they wanted.

I told your generation from GAF to half a dozen message boards, over and over and over and over I told you, from horse armor, to dlc, to games as a service to lootboxes.... The second they feel they can make more money using mobile con schemes they would drop the AAAAAAAA business model like a bad habit. Your generation is so entitled, self absorbed, greedy, and inconsiderate of any who may have enjoyed games coming after you... You are the baby boomers of gaming generations... Even now, you won't get off your mentally lazy butts, and try and make excuses so you don't have to leave your comfort zone of complacency. Oh, game A B and C just came out this year and are single player. No @#$%, it doesn't start with everything all at once. It starts with just one, like horse armor, and everyone watches to see if thee worst generation will be stupid and lazy enough to let it root. And then it works its way across the spectrum.

There is a concentrated push inside all of EA now, to get rid of Single player games in favor of multi oriented cash cows, when it succeeds, others will follow the money.

...except there's a thriving indie scene, several pretty great Kickstarter games, and AAA titles like Witcher 3, Prey, Horizon, Wolfenstein 2, Doom, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 4, Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Persona 5, Dishonored 2, and Final Fantasy XV - all of them are big budget games without microtransactions.

Yes, people, the highest budget, most advertised games are, from this point, going to be things that appeal to the lowest common denominator and which will be full of bullshit like microtransactions. That fucking sucks and I won't pretend like it doesn't disappoint me. But all it takes is the most cursory look underneath that to find some real gems, games of a high quality from many different genres with plenty of content.

Can we please stop with this doom and gloom bullshit?

Not doom and gloom but its hard to feel positive about the industy when so many games this fall have lootboxes and MT's out of the ass.

I was on gaf for about 7 years so its a bit rough for me because you kind of get into a routine of checking gaf when your bored or your just messing around on the internet. I was in a lot of different communities over there. Soulsgaf, nflgaf, gbgaf, rpggaf and a few others. It sucks to lose access to those communities but what Tyler is accused of is pretty heinous and I couldn't in good faith keep posting there anymore if any of that was true. I know some people from the site are trying to put together stuff new sites like reset era but I'm going to take a wait and see approach and see how that pans out. In the meantime, I'll start posting on here again and I've signed up for the waypoint forums. I've been around here for a while and been following the crew since Gamespot (even left gamespot in protest when they fired Jeff) but I don't post on the forums very often as I find them hard to navigate. Waypoint seems nice and I'm obviously a big fan of Patrick and Austin so I'll give a try and see if I like it over there.

I'm on team Jeff. I don't buy this argument that it has to be this way. Its only this way because they sell tons without having to improve anything or at least make it stable. There is really no excuse why this game performs so poorly on nearly every piece of hardware available. The constant hitching, freezing, and crashing is just really annoying which is only made worse because its in a "meh" fallout game with very little rpg mechanics and player agency and a crappy story that makes no sense.

I voted for Gone Home. Its a good experience and its only an hour long or so. Easy one to knock out and move onto the next one.

Skins that are exclusive will be available though chests. You have to roll chests with gems (ie real money) to get them though. I got that Bellona skin through a chest roll recently. You just have to wait for a sale and hope its not in a 55 item chest and get lucky.

Its hard to say right now with what I've seen but they definitely needed to do something different. If it would've been the same Kratos yelling and screaming and killing gods, I think I would've went "meh" and moved on but this has me interested. The whole design of the game seems completely different which is good but is a concern as well. I'm wondering how satisfying it is going to feel. If they are going to go in this Dark Souls like nature, then there animation work needs to be top notch and it looked a bit clunky and I'm not sure about the camera. One thing I never liked about souls is that the camera for big bosses can fuck you over sometimes because you lose that spacial awareness with the way the camera is positioned. I'm not sure if they have fixed this or not. I'm iffy on how this will all work but I'm more interested in this than I would be if it was just more God of War in the way we are used to seeing it.

Well its been a while since I've played DS2 but iirc blunt weapons are good against armor so if you've been facing enemies that have weapons that do strike damage (basically any mace, great hammer or great club type of weapon) it won't help you that much if you have a lot of armor on. Also, there are better armors in the game (like havel's) that will gave you better defense than the looking knight armor. Also keep in mind that armor scales with this game so the higher your natural physical defense is (which is increased by vit and a few other stats), the better the armor will be. DLC is also much harder than anything in the main game so its not surprising that they are hitting your harder because the dlc enemies hit harder and have more resistances than anything in the main game. Anyway, hopes this helps :).
