My Favorite Games this Generation

Just a list of my favorite games thus far this generation. They're not in any particiular order and yes the list is almost entirely 360 games but I sense that will change over time as I get around to playing my PS3 more.

List items

  • This was really my first RPG that I put any significant amount of time in and I just became hooked. Have about 200 hours logged so far.

  • Personally I thought the gameplay was a little rough around the edges, but never as the setting and atmosphere of a game sucked me in as Bioshock did. It's one of my gaming shames that I haven't beaten it yet.

  • The first two games most people would generally agree are awesome, but I know this pick is probably a head-scratcher to most. It certainly has it's problems but the sheer amount of loot in this game kept me coming back for over 225 hours of play. Add in a pretty decent co-op experience and this one was right in my wheelhouse.

  • Admittedly I was a little sad that Bethesda chose to make a new Fallout game instead of another Elder Scrolls initially. I had never played the previous Fallout games and although it combined probably my two favorite genres, I wasn't sure it was for me. Well, Bethesda proved they knew my interests better than I do.

  • Over the years I have found myself less and less interested in competitive online games and preferring co-op games instead. Well, leave it to Valve to figure out a way to scratch both those itches in one game. The new special infected just added so much more depth to the game over the original, I have barely been able to put it down since it came out. I really wish it had time played tracker although after 130 days play, I'm not sure I really want to know.

  • What is there to say about ME2 that others have not already said better? Simply put, they took a solid game in the original and improved upon nearly every aspect of it. The story and characters are more engrossing, the shooter mechanics were vastly improved, even the damn mineral collecting is better! About the only change I did not agree with is the handling of loot/inventory in the new game. Yes, it is much more streamlined but at the cost of weapon and armor variety. I suppose upgrading your weapons automatically is practically the same, but the looter in me prefers the old way.

  • While Borderlands is severely lacking in the story department, it was one of the first games this generation to have a fully featured 4 player online co-op mode, which I and most of my friends have been waiting for pretty much since the first 2 player co-op games on 360. Coupled with a ridiculously amount of loot and solid shooter mechanics, how can you not love Borderlands? Well, I guess if you played Mad Moxxis maybe not...

  • Burnout Paradise is exactly what I have been looking for in an open world racer; the ability to race online with my friends in cooperative manor. Sure, Test Drive Unlimited did it first, but Paradise did it so much better and with the flare and sense of speed Burnout is famous for.
