1. Super Meat Boy
A platformer this tough is only as good as its controls. Luckily it controls perfectly. The art, style, humor, charm and especially the soundtrack send it above all other games this year, and straight into the discussion of one of my favorite games of all time.

2. Super Mario Galaxy 2
Better level design than the first. Clever, colorful and addictive.

3. Kirby's Epic Yarn
Unique. Great art style. Lovely soundtrack. A delight to play.

4. Fallout: New Vegas
I got really, really involved in another Fallout world. After two games in the series (that I've played) this is probably my favorite RPG series ever.

5. Mega Man 10
Same formula as 24 years ago. Still great.

6. Joe Danger
Fun, exciting, engaging, and simple to understand - all make it a perfect downloadable title.

7. BioShock 2
I'm surprised by how much I still think about this game. Much improved gameplay over the first.

8. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light
My favorite co-op game in quite a while. Clever 2-player design.

9. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Beats Split/Second and Sonic All-Stars Racing for favorite racer of the year.

10. Limbo
Any 2D platformer with gravity altering puzzles is a friend of mine. Way too short for $15.

11. DeathSpank
I played this game for its art style, ended up loving its humor, and loathed its soundtrack.

12. Mass Effect 2
Great atmosphere, slickest presentation around, so much to do in this game.

13. Donkey Kong Country Returns
Great year for the wii. Unfortunately, I expected more from this one. Poor design choices - particularly the control options - brought it down just a bit.

14. Cave Story
Nice little retro game with some memorable moments and music.

15. Dance Central
Validates the existence of the Kinect.
