Best of 2011
Top 10 of 2011
In another year full of franchises adding a third or fourth uninspired entry with rehashed content, it's mostly the indie games that deserve praise.

A very worthy sequel/prequel to one of the best games of all time. Human Revolution has managed to retain the great atmosphere and feel of the original Deus Ex while being updated with many of today's gameplay mechanics, with only a few minor miss-steps along the way.
A nice mix of an early 1990s adventure game and Blade Runner with a few new tweaks makes this one of the best games I've played in a while... and it was made primarily by one dude. The setting, story and tone of it are the highlights.
Ghost Trick does so many things well. It has an amazing story, characters that are all interesting and fleshed out, a unique visual style, great music and interesting gameplay. One of my favorites. The developers have done an amazing job taking the best aspects of Phoenix Wright and putting it into unique adventure on the DS.
Another great entry into the Blackwell series of adventure games. While all of them have been pretty good, Deception is definitely the best yet. Once again, everything is a step up in polish and the story is as great as ever.
After putting several hours into multiplayer, I can say that they have done a really amazing job following up Battlefield 2. It looks (PC version), sounds and plays amazing. The addition of rush mode is nice, but the conquest large maps is where it's at. Single player is a skippable Call of Duty clone. This will be my go to multiplayer game for the next while.
If your game can give you an genuine adrenaline rush you have done something right. More rally was nice to see and hope the next one focuses even more on rally events, but the other modes are still fun as well.
A fun combat system, an interesting take on time travel/alternate history jumping, and a decent story make for a good (and lengthy) JRPG. Not a mind blowing emotional tale by any means, but one you will still want to see through till the end. Not every JRPG needs a love triangle right?
You can and will lose track of time and dig endlessly for hours. The loot/crafting system and boss monsters are a nice addition and helps to give more direction to the game. With updates being released regularly it will be interesting to see how Terraria evolves over time.
A funny kinda puzzle/adventure game. Hitman meets Russian stacking dolls? Really enjoyed it despite some faults.
An amazing and emotional adventure set in a world where it is possible to reshape a persons memories before death. Gameplay wise it is essentially an interactive story, but one you won't soon forget. I can't say much more without ruining the experience.
This probably doesn't count as a 2011 game because it's a a re-release, but it deserves mention. Two amazing games in one package. The re-worked visuals are great, and the framerate problems that plague the original releases are gone.
