Collector's Edition- do you buy them?

The last few months I have really picked up an interest for rare editions of games, especially those with figurines.

The only problem I have is that they might be hard to get in Norway, and they cost a lot. For instance does the Aliens Vs Predator CE with a facehugger (it's really neat) cost 900 NOK, or about 152 USD. And with the reception that game got, I'm not willingly putting that much money into it.

Do you care about collector's editions or do you just get the regular copy of the game?

I buy Collector's Editions when it is a game I really like and the stuff they throw in is pretty cool. In the last couple of years I have picked up the Demon's Souls CE, Halo 3 Legendary, Halo Wars CE, Halo 3: ODST CE, Street Fighter IV CE, and the Fallout 3 CE. Oh yeah, I also picked up the GTA IV Special Edition. Duffle bags and lock boxes, son!

Only if the price is right. I played Fallout 3 on PC, but I picked up the PS3 Collector's Edition when it was on sale. I'm contemplating the Alan Wake CE, but I found a great offer for the regular edition.

Neighbouring Sweden is pretty silly with its prices as well, that's why I mostly get my games online/from other countries.

Nope... they're a total rip off more often than not.

If the price is right and I think the extras are worth it.

SC2 Collector's might be my only CE in a long, long time.

Depends on what it comes with really.  Or if the game means anything to me personally.

The GTA IV special edition was the shit though I still can't believe it came with so much stuff.

Depends, most are total-rip offs, but I've seen the Halo 3 helmet go for 80$, if there's a good DVD, or set of making of features, or a good art book or something, than it's worth it for me. I love getting the behind-the-scenes look to it. Also something that makes it special, the vinyl from Bioshock 2 is a good example.

I only purchase CE's of JRPGs and cult games (hard to tell at the time of release),  since they tend to go up in value enormously over the years. I wouldn't do the same for most AAA titles, though.

Lately I've been going crazy with collector's editions. The other week I bought Demon's Souls Deluxe Edition on eBay for $180 only to find out a few days later it's getting released in PAL.

Only if they give me something of value and not DLC shit.

HOWEVER, the Starcraft 2 Limited Edition is confirmed to pay back for what I pay because I'll be selling that WoW code to them idiots a few months down the road.  :P

I went with the regular US edition, but I'll definately pre-order the PAL CE as well. Also pre-ordered a Monster Hunter Tri pack, which comes with some kind of figurine.

Honestly I am a fan of gaming posters.  And they seriously never put them in special editions.  I just don't get it.  I don't want a stupid making of dvd I will maybe watch once, I want a badass poster for my favourite games to put up on me wall!

Nope.
Even if the extras are cool they end up being nothing more than junk lying around the house.

@KaosAngel: Well if I'm paying extra for a different edition, they're not free games ;). If the extra on the collector's edition is more gameplay, that could be something I would be interested in.

What about that BioShock 2 limited edition?  That was pretty snazzy and just 10 bucks more.

Got that one my self, mostly because of the Little sister that came with it. But there is something about the musical score of BioShock being on LP that is seriously satisfying.

I bought the Gears of War 2 CE, along with a metal case, you got a DLC code for a gold Lancer, a book with some art and a keychain. So no, it wasn't worth the extra 10 dollars...

Only with games that will most likely be big, and I am really looking forward to, like Red Dead Redemption and the most recent one I bought was BC2, but that was just because it was the same price as usual.

no, i never buy collectors edition since a lot of it is nothing that great. i bought modern warfare 2 prestige edition because i knew that i would find some use of the night vision goggles. i use them sometimes when it gets late and my cat doesn't come in. a lot of times there is nothing great.

Oh, yeah. I did buy the Bioshock 2 CE. Although, here it was $40 more than the standard edition. The pack-ins were pretty swank, though. I dig the vinyl record of the original soundtrack. It sounds super good on my record player.

It really depends for me. If it's a game I want but I'm not a major fan of them I will definitely not buy a Limited Edition. However, if it's a franchise I enjoy I will. Due to this I own Forza Motorsport 3 LCE and Bad Company 2 LE. They're the only Limited Editions I can think of for my 360. But if I can afford to, I will get Collectors Edition games over Standard Editions, for the simple reason that they generally have bonus unlocks included. And if they're not bonus they're unlocked early or for free.

Depends what they have for CE.
Splinter Cell's CE is mad overpriced.
The best I own to date is still the GTA:IV one. Soundtrack's good and there's a bunch of other awesome goodies. The locker box is of high quality. There's also a nice bag in it.

The only collectors edition I've gotten is the Halo 3 one (not the Legendary one).

Might get one for Reach if it has one, maybe RDR. Probably not though.

Well that comes down to personal preference. I'd never spend my money on anything related to Bioshock.

Usually only buy them if they come with some really good stuff and if I know its a game I will really like. My favorite has to be the GTA IV CE; got such actually useful stuff in there. My least favorite would be the Mass Effect 2 CE, it came with a bunch of junk but it almost redeems itself by having light years better box art than the standard edition's.

Occasionally. For example, I just had to have the lock box that came with GTA IV's special edition, and the Rockstar logo key chain is still right next to my keys on the loop.

I rarely care about collectors editions, and in some cases have purposely avoided them. That said, whenever companies actually come out with a collectors edition that is both worthwhile and for a game I really want (which is practically never) I'm all for it. Unfortunately, the ones I do want seem to always have some sort of Gamestop logo on them or some crap like that.
