The main reason I got pissed of when [that thing happened at the end of the Vice desk] was that at 75% of the way through the game, I am just learning that Cole has a wife and two kids. On top of that, he ruins his relationship with them by doing something I would NEVER have had him do if given the choice.
Also, damn you (though I doubt you will see this) Anthony Burch!!!! I was perfectly happy with the interrogation system until I listened to the latest HAWPcast when you actually broke down how it is broken. Of course there were a few instances where I “knew” I was selecting the correct answer only to have the game chime at me in flat notes but it was only a few. I found myself making my decisions based on whether or not the actors faces twitched instead of on the evidence I had collected. Not because that’s how I interact with people on a daily basis, but because that’s how the game was meant to be played. The facial capture technology in the game didn’t actually make the game a realistic interrogation simulation, but rather a proof of concept that happened to be used in a way that the game convinces you is legitimate. For that I should give a give Rockstar and Team Bondi a standing ovation (for successfully making me believe that you can solve crimes based on looking at facial tics) yet I can only feel betrayed.
The combination of this revelation, the plot twist I could force myself to believe, and the total abandonment of the main character completely ruined the game for me, even though the story is still an amazing one. I guess the game deserves props for starting of strong, it’s a gorgeous game when you first look at it, with a great story and interesting mechanics. This is a game that people look at and say “Wow this is great, look at the [insert new technology here], ZOMG I am hypnotized by its awesomeness!” and I am not immune to the grandeur of shiny thing however much I wish I were. The more I think about the game, I less I like it, so for now I’ll stop thinking about, since I do want to play the DLC.
