Have you ever written a thesis before? Maybe during your undergrad?

You should really be doing some academic research, ideally through your university's library's website. Search both 'video games' and 'literature' - see what research is currently predominate in the field, what 'future research' they suggest, - you know, compose a bibliography and go see your thesis supervisor (if you have one currently).

Agree with Supes,

While I believe websites can be used as non-official references (depending on the academic writing standard), the quality and credibility of your thesis/article/essay etc. will depend on the references you collect. Alot of times, your institution's Library will have both physical and digital mediums of articles. For your current idea, I really do think that the digital medium will be the way to go in order to find the most recent articles that themselves will have a references section that you can draw from.

As far as idea, there's alot of good ones listed here, and it all depends on the relationship you'd like to make between literature and gaming.

For instance, if this were me, I would probably write about the influence of past events on video games (i.e. world wars, political climates, economy fluxes etc.). In contrast, you can write about how fictional novelizations of the past have found some legging in some of today's rpg games (i.e. mythologies, fantasy novels, etc); note that this is a specific example and might be hard to find references on, but it's an idea to draw from anyway.

Hope that helps somewhat!

Bad Company 1 was my first experience with multiplayer FPS and since then with BC2 and BF3 I've gotten better and worse respectively (since I don't play as consistantly as I'd like to either). I guess the kit you play with mostly will kind of determine how you will do in terms of supporting your team right? I remember using the Recon kit in the BF3 Beta and spotting for teammates, getting a kill here and there, but I got really anxious because arming/defening the MCOMS is where it's at; so I switched to Assault, was usually one of the top 4 consistantely (healing helps a ton, as demonstrated in this topic) and helped win more games.

In the retail version I play Engineer exclusively because I want to be able to disable/destroy vehicles and drive/repair them.... haven't tried support yet though, maybe that's where it's at for me!

But yeah, to sum it up, I'm up there with totally sucking at this game. ={

No regrets at all, bought it on the 360, beat the campaign (the second half was not too bad actually) and now am on MP... hopefully will want to do some CO-OP missions someday.

My PC could run the game on low to medium settings I think, but I really don't game too much on PC so console was the natural choice.

Rank 7... I haven't had a great start, partially due to my great inexperience with Multiplayer FPS games in general (with my first true ones being BC1 and BC2). I feel like a small fish in the huge ocean sometimes, but am learning at a gradual pace I guess. Best advice from me, a greatly inexperienced player, would be just to chillax; I find that when I get frustrated I do very poorly but when I don't care too much about it then I do better. Of course playing the objective too... it will get you killed alot, but at the same time it's where the most action is and if you play smart and apply tactics etc. getting that win feels much better than getting that revenge kill.

Plus that way you rank up better/faster. =o

I got the game on the console version because a console is what I play games on mostly, my PC has the ability to run the game on medium settings I think, but I still opted for the 360 version mostly because I'm comfortable with that version and that type of gaming.

PC Battlefield 3 is superior to Console Battlefield 3, but you know what? Both versions are fun in their own right, and in fact both are just plain fun overall!

I miss the game-play from BFBC2 to be honest, I feel that this game is almost a step down from that in terms of gameplay/physics/realism etc, but a step up in graphics.

That said, each 'game' has unrealistic and realistic elements, yet I generally agree with the OP for almost everything they suggest; smaller environmental aspects shouldn't interfere that much with larger game-play elements (i.e. trash cans/rocks interfering with tanks). To that effect, shot drop seems drastically different than it did in BFBC2; almost as if the aiming reticule needs to be placed farther above the target.

I guess for the most part I'm comparing things to BFBC2, but at the end of the day BF3 is an awesome game despite these minor setbacks...

*goes to play BF3*

Yeah, I usually play every weekend or so (on the XBOX 360) and there seems to always be a game going.

I gotta say, I wasn't for online fps games much, both because of my low skill level and because it just wasn't my 'cup of tea'... until I played Bad Company 1 (which also 'still' has lots of games going) and then BC 2. BC 2 was the first game that I was decent in online and the first I actually cared about playing, making up strategies etc. It's just so expansive, immersive and although I could see the experience getting redundant from time to time, I think BC2/Vietnam will have its servers full for a while to come.

It was first for me since this is the first fps game that I really played multiplayer for. (Actually BC1 was the first, which was earlier in the year, but it wasn't released this year so... yeah)

It's hard to describe why I like it so much; the large maps, destruction 2.0, team based objective play. Probably all of them are good reasons for this game being at the top position for me. Like I said before, this is coming from someone who is not too great at fps games (I think my both my k/d & w/l ratio is only 0.77 or so) and really who only plays fps for their single player campaigns.

I think it's safe to say that Battlefield BC 2 is a game I'll be playing for the better part of 2011 as well, especially with Vietnam out now... Hopefully BC3 is announced soon, since I would like to see where the story goes.

See you guys online sometime.
