The story is better told in the recaps than in the cutscenes.
The characters are archetypal and devoid of any depth.
The game is painfully linear in every respect.
Might be fine for some no-name RPG, but you're building up some lofty expectations when you slap the name Final Fantasy on a game. Without a doubt, this is the worst one I've played.
Nothing about the game really worked for me, but I can definitely see why it would trigger loneliness. You're by yourself, experiencing the lives of other people vicariously through notes.
Had to stop listening to Weekend Confirmed a little over a year ago when they continually brought on a guest host that I could not stand. Bummer for Garnett, I know he enjoyed doing it.
Is Games Journalism dead? I don't know. Maybe in its current review-heavy nature. Taste is so subjective. I frankly find all reviews to be worthless. What good is a review from someone who doesn't share your taste? If you're worried about things like bugs/frame rates/ etc wait a day or two and check some forums.
If there's a future for Games Journalism, it will be more feature-focused.
You can still see hints of an interesting script that ended up getting Hollywooded to death. Literally every story beat is predictable. Props to the one dude for doing his best Christian Bale in American Psycho impression. At least it doesn't waste your time with a lot of setup.
Ditch the console that's still being supported in order to play our mediocre launch games even though the console will be 100 dollars cheaper by the time there's anything worth playing on it.
