Obviously the guys can't be as critical but the developers can be incredibly informative. And as the games industry is what I want to go into after I graduate from Uni, knowledge is power.
Although you do get the odd boring one: Yars Revenge. There was so little to say about that game!

This. You need to show what position you are interested in and how you can slot into their company. Whether that be programming, animation, whatever. For example, you could possibly hand out business cards with a URL to an online portfolio on? Or a website with information about your work.
I suppose an advantage to physically going to a expo of some sort, shows your commitment. Although sending something via email or post would be cheaper and more conventional.
I am buying this game simply for its art style and design. It looks incredible. If it's a good game, that's a bonus. But lets face it, it's going to be good.
