I thought Transistor would be great and it was a disappointment.
Had hopes for several other games that turned out just O-K.
So far Dragon Age: Inquisition is probably my GOTY. Amazing game with an addictive penchant for exploration. Any real fan of RPG's would definitely enjoy it. Even despite it's flaws Inquisition remains incredibly entertaining after roughly 40 hours that I've sunk into it. All the hooks of a proper RPG are there: exploration, great dungeons, a ton of armor and customization and a great supporting cast of characters all with their own interesting back stories.
@mattthadude: I don't think it's doomed, you just might have a different experience. So far the PS4 plays games well but it does everything else so poorly. I'm always surprised by how much flack the XB1 dashboard gets, but I never hear anyone mention how bad the XMB on the PS4 is at times. Currently there are actually a few more games I'm excited about on the XB1 than the PS4.
@khronikos: It's strange that you choose to defend one game by using the same exaggerations and semi-correct generalizations on another. There are plenty of people who think that Unity is mechanically the best game in the franchise, or best since AC:2 anyway. Apart from performance hiccups and some occasional AI tomfoolery the game worked as intended.
I might as well say Drive Club is generally known to be a bad game with poor physics, bad controls and uninteresting design. Of course that is all hearsay that I picked up from the internet, as I haven't personally played the game. It's great that you're passionate about DC, but lets all make it a better world and defend the games we love on their own merits without putting down others. Sorry for the rant but this bothers me to no end when I see it.
@hassun: If those are the cut and dry criteria were going to go by then by all intents and purposes not only is Assassins Creed Black Flag an RPG but it was designed as an MMO as well. I think we just have a fundamentally different view of things here so in order to not ham the thread up any longer we can just agree to disagree. I can sort of see where you're coming from but I don't really agree with it at all, but hey thats ok.
@hassun: Well then I'm confused, what does make it like an MMO then? I'm honestly trying to understand because I just don't see where the comparison comes into play. Dragon Age Inquisition is basically Mass Effect 2 with a sprinkling of cues taken from Origins.
@treetrunk: if by "fixed" you mean the addition of a depth of field blur effect that renders the game nearly unplayable or half broken dynamic lighting that looks nice in a carefully positioned screenshot but not in action?
That wasn't much of a fix and turning on that stuff murdered the framerate because turning on half finished features the developer took out usually won't end well.
Also yes, any time I have to download some weird files from some external site and unzip and install them on my own - yah I call that being on my own.
@hassun: MMOS are all about grinding and repetition. You don't do much hardcore grinding in Inquisition. Honestly you seem very hung up on this notion of it being an MMO in a negative way but I think you're confusing side quests with MMO elements. I mean it's no more an MMO than Skyrim or Assassins Creed. Having an open map with side objectives doesn't make you an MMO.
@hassun: They are the same quests we have had for ages now. This is the bread and butter of all RPG's. I don't mind it, because it gives you things to do in the game world. The main questline is interesting and the character specific sidequests are also fun. Most of the stuff was organic for me. I'm exploring a new area and see a rift, so I go close it and move on. I very rarely went about the world doing the Rifts first, then the shards, then this then that. Most of the time I just did whatever came up.
Also I'm not sure what you mean about the trend not being there. Dragon Age is fashioned as an open world game. The Witcher 3 will be an open world game. The Dark Souls games were basically trying to be open world games. All the Ubisoft stuff. Most RPG's these days are open world experiences.
@machofantastico: Personally I don't know if I'd bother doing Strike playlists. The time investment is high and the rewards are low. You're better off doing bounties and saving up rep points to buy vanguard gear rather than wasting 45 minutes on a single strike that more often than not will not even have a single purple engram. If you like crucible then keep playing that and make sure you take all the easy bounties like Kill 25 Titans, get 50 headshots, kill 10 guardians from behind etc. You might not be the greatest shot in the universe but within a day or two you will accumulate 50 headshots from just playing.
Vanguard and Crucible marks are where your gear should be coming from. Playing the game and hoping for drops is not worth it.
