@bonorbitz: I can't speak for anyone else, but for me Idle thumbs evoked a feeling of "A bunch of friends hanging around talking about video games" even moreso than GiantBomb. It helped that they were pretty smart guys and very funny. I actually found Giantbomb through them as Brad was a guest on of their earlier 'casts.
Another thing that set them apart was that they didn't have a schedule for each episode, they would just talk about games and maybe answer some emails. If a subject started going long they wouldn't cut it off because they had to get to the next section or something.
I agree with Unreal 1 having a great sense of isolation and was a really beautiful looking game for it's time. I'm not super confident about Epic pulling off that vibe if they did an Unreal now.
Also, I wonder why they haven't released Unreal or UT99 on XBLA or PSN. Unreal especially would work well with a controller.
I've never minded Home. It's always been fun to check out every so often just to see the new areas and stuff. I tried out the Sodium game a while back and actually paid the $5 for the full version. Surprisingly fun little shooter.
So, inspired by the recent release of the Tron: Legacy trailer, the gallery over at Dead End Thrills ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/duncanjharris/sets/72157623478261987/detail/ ), and the release of the "Killer App" Mod ( http://tron.wikia.com/wiki/Tron_2.0_Killer_App_Mod ) I decided to play through Tron 2.0 for the first time. Enjoying it so far, the visuals have held up extremely well and look great at high resolutions. It plays very solidly and actually reminds me somewhat of a less intricate Deus Ex with all the system and skill upgrades you make on your character. Only the story leaves something to be desired, at least so far. It seems rushed and doesn't let you get to know the characters. In one instance, you meet (what I thought to be) a major character, spend exactly one level with her, and then they kill her off in a cutscene that I guess was supposed to elicit emotion, but falls very flat. However, the gameplay so far makes up for it, and I'm only a couple hours in so who knows what will unfold later on.
Last month I discovered the Persona 4 endurance run on this site and after watching a few episodes of it, decided to pick up a copy and "play along" so to speak. Fast forward to the present and I'm at episode 72 and just a wee bit ahead of the videos in my game. Starting to feel a little burnt out, most likely because I've been grinding levels quite a bit more than they do in the ER (I'm in the low 50's). I'm trying to resist cracking open one of the next games in my queue because I know if I do, there's a high possibility that Persona 4 will never get finished. Doesn't help that the wife keeps asking me when this game will be over because the music is driving her nuts :)
