Just a followup to show true transparency. I did pick up the Limited Edition 3 days after release and have been dutifully impressed by how different the game is from my first time with the multiplayer.

@SevenRobotCats: I don't think that makes you an idiot, considering the 360 servers were down moments after launch, and as you said, the maps are a little big for 24 player action, you probably made the correct choice!

I regret to inform you that I did, at or about 2 hours ago, buy a second copy of Battlefield 3 for PC. The first copy was preordered on 360. Why do I have 2 versions of the game? I'm an idiot, thats why.

In reality, I noticed the maps in the quicklook to be really bland and empty and larger scaled maps on PC made me have a change of heart. I'll end up playing both versions with friends and after a month or so just send the 360 version back to amazon for a trade in credit or something. Once again, im and idiot.

Installed and ready to go at 00:00, when the game unlocks on Origin in my region.

I pity the fool who's not on-board.

Also, the BF3 360 servers are currently down and EA is working to resolve the problem. Ouch.

So far so good. I'm glad to keep my 60 bucks for another couple days. Especially watching the lack of destruction on the 360. I knew the whole media campaign was crap.

All you simply need to do is say "I'm buying it on Day 1, because I think I know more about the final product, and certification processes", like most of the responders. My point is that from what I have seen from the Beta that was released to the general public, was an unfinished, bug-filled product. Beta or not, there are still hundreds and thousands of people that purchased Medal of Honor and got access to the Beta who have never played BF2 or 1942, or don't know what a beta is (some people still think they're demos) and will use the state of the Beta as a platform for basing their opinions on the final product. It doesn't matter how many incredible trailers are released, if a 15 year old kid with 60 bucks to his/her name, sees an incredible trailer with ultra-destruction, realistic physics, amazing graphics, and then gets access to the Beta, and sees none of those things, do you think he's going to run out and buy that product?

I'm looking at this from a purely Business standpoint. I know lots about games. I know how they work, and how they are released. I'm looking at the effect that this beta has had on customers and consumers that aren't quite educated in these types of things. The Beta doesn't even have a warning that this is not a final product. It simply runs, and plays like a demo.

Pre ordered.

Except I did read your post; the point I was making was that you recognize that the average consumer (who is typically quite stupid) isn't going to be able to objectively evaluate the beta for what it is, yet you go ahead and lump yourself into that same group of sheep. The fact is the beta we played was around 2 months old by the time it was wrapping up. Your points about the beta hurting their bottom line are vapid to my main argument: that you are basing your expectations of the final product on old ass code, a fact mirrored by a recent Joystiq article which stated that the most recent code they played was nothing like the beta. In other words, just because you lack the ability to comprehend a certification process, doesn't make your accusations of the final product being "shady" true.

Also (just to make sure my rage isn't misconstrued as fanboyism or the like): the reason I'm annoyed is because for the first time in a long time a company releases an ACTUAL beta. What happens? The console players (who are largely to blame for the disappearance of true betas in the first place) whine and moan and say they're not going to buy the game because it's broken. Conclusion? Console players are why we can't have nice things.

Probably not. Not because of the beta or anything like that. Money is the problem, and having to choose between BF3, Skyrim and Arkham City, BF3 will have to take a back seat.

So it looks like the community is split 60/40 on Day 1 Purchasing. I wonder how the rest of the gaming community is split, if split at all.

I was going to wait and see, but now that Amazon has a digital copy on sale for $41 effing dollars, I have Pre ordered...

I'm going to be very busy unfortunately during it's release so not a day 1 purchase for me. Skyrim on the other hand...

It's the ingredients that make this kind of thing possible that draw me to the game also. Can't wait, I'll be getting a copy on PC.

Unlike almost everyone else in the world, the beta sold me on BF3. I pre-ordered it yesterday.

Game is beastly on PC so I'll buy day 1, I hope they can get it working better on consoles.

@TrueEnglishGent: That's what I'm saying. The fact that I did not have access to any vehicular combat was ridiculous. I was in both the Closed Private Beta, The Pre-Order Beta, and the Public Beta and was unable to play Caspian. Some say it was simply a fluke that they got into it at all. I don't know the state of the beta currently and am currently turning on my 360 to see if I can now get on to said maps.

@hoossy: If they're going to be fixed then hooray. I hope everything is fixed, and I'll run right out and pick up the Limited Edition the day after launch.

I was good at Metro. Great beta. Sniper island was hell though. You just need to learn how to jump, hide, and dodge. Oh, and SMAWs are your friends til the end !!

absolutely... and someone here posted an article from a journalist who had played a near completed build that was much better than the beta we played... and he pretty much confirmed that all the problems we were having are going to be fixed...

The hit boxes, the bugs, the lag (for the most part)... etc, etc. I have confidence. Not in EA, but with DICE.

But hey, if you are a full time engineering student, then maybe BF3 should be the last thing on your mind

Yes indeedio! Operation Metro map had me real concerned but Caspian Border regained my confidence. Had an absolute blast playing that map.

I'm probably going to, haven't pre-ordered it however.

I think DICE knows what they're doing and they've had very few missteps in the BF evolution. The beta definitely had some issues but it really played like a true BF game so I am definitely getting it on release day.

Yeah, I am. I see it. It's buried a bit (bugs and the like that I'm chalking up to beta weirdness), but in the moments it ran well, I fucking loved it. I know the exact point when it hit me:

Get in chopper as gunner, fly over point, spray down point with shots, take two stingers and bail, shotgun a dude just before landing. The pilot lands right near me, we half-way cap the flag when an enemy chopper pops up. Neither of us have stingers, so we have to make a run for a building as cannon shots and rockets explode around us (it helps that I was running this on the PC on high at the time; even without ultra in the game it looked pretty amazing). Third member of the squad spawns in (who is carrying a stinger), he takes a shot from the building just as the wall explodes in front of us. It hits the heli, disabling it. We run outside (in hindsight, a bad move), anticipating the people bailing, but instead the pilot crashes it right into us, taking out the whole squad.

Even with all the shit that kept cropping up, that was the most fun I've had with a game in a good year.

its bf3 i trust dice the only issues they have in there games are server issues -__-. aside from the fact bc2 and 1943 were extensively patched to fix bugs . im not at all worried. theyve created a loyal customer what can i say. and i just recently got a good pc so yeah im gettin it day one.

although i am finding mouse and keyboard rather difficult to adjust to hopefully the game pad controls are good. yes i know mouse is for better for aiming but the movement not so much.

Still preordering it. I for one really liked the beta. Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience.

If I want the Limited Edition that I had pre-ordered, I will simply go to EB, Wal-Mart, Future Shop, or Best-Buy, and pick it up. Most of which still have the Medal of Honor: LE still available en masse. (That means lots, for you "brah" folks)

Ottawa and Carleton arent rivals. Because Ottawa is one of the best schools in Canada. Carleton is nowhere near as good a school. They pad their averages with quite a few scholarships. A lot that people who get them cant maintain. Quite ironically.
