@larmer: I mean that Hello games have always seemed reluctant to release in depth information about it and have said on multiple occasions that they don't want to reveal too much and want players to find a lot of stuff for themselves. They have shown most of the mechanics, the flying, shooting, crafting and trading as well as teased the language stuff. I don't see what they would show at a press conference that wasn't just rehashing stuff they have already talked about.

@larmer: I don't think No Man's Sky not being there is indicative of anything. They've had it on stage a bunch before and they don't want to reveal too much about it before launch. The release date is already known so there isn't much to announce on a stage.

I thought it was a pretty solid showing for their normal games. Horizon still looks cool, the new direction for God of War seems good, Days Gone could be cool with the hordes of zombies and Detroit seems like a decent David Cage Game. The VR side seemed weak barring RE7 but I can understand them wanting to get the big names out there for the most wide reaching stage they have even if the games don't seem much like games.

@notorious_pog: Thay are but it is super male dominated so can be kind of daunting to get into if you aren't male.

@alex: You can't really mess up an orbit by bumping into something (unless you are going very fast or are very massive). The only two things that affect the shape of your orbit are your velocity and position so bumping into something at 2 m/s (about 5 mph) isn't going to have a noticeable affect on the orbit of either craft. If you were in a car going 5 mph and hit another car it would nudge it a little but isn't going to have a major effect on its position or speed. Another effect of this is that if you are close to an object and have a relative velocity close to zero you must have the same orbit to that object. Knowing this makes it a lot easier to park next to an object in space because you don't need as much fiddling around in the map, you can just pull up next to it and match speeds.

I imagine the way to make an "expansion pak" type thing for the xbox one work is to take the idea of graphics settings from pc games. Obviously it wouldn't work and wouldn't make much sense to have a load of sliders in the options menu but having set graphics settings that are determined by whether you have the extra hardware or not should work. That way you don't have to make a game for a subsection of the install base to make use of the hardware.

I pretty sure the MOBA that was on ESPN was DOTA2. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=13403382

I seem to remember HotS being on ESPN as well specifically the college tournament Blizzard ran. I guess it was ESPN thinking they could get the same people who are into college football and such.

Also @austin_walker the thing about the game companies running all their own tournaments isn't entirely true. The only tournament Valve runs in its entirety is The International, the majors for both Dota and CS are run by other organisations and there are a ton of completely independent tournaments for both games. With Starcraft the feeder tournaments are also run by other organisations and Blizzard only run the finals at Blizzcon there are some tournaments outside of WCS but the scene is pretty small now so there are a lot less than there were. Both HotS and Heathstone seem to have a good amount of independent tournaments going and I imagine Overwatch will if that takes off but being a closed beta at the moment limits that to some degree. MLG was one of the big tournaments for CoD and Halo so presumably that remains the case for CoD and who knows what happens with Halo.

I think most of the games that do only have tournaments organised by the devs of the game are the ones that are having the forced esports pushed on them.

2-1

YOU WIN THE WAR BY MAKING THE OTHER SIDE QUIT. THAT WAS THE PLAN FROM THE BEGINNING.

From your chat after the end of the Armaggedan you both were in favour of quitting. Mutually assured destruction rather than one side getting the win then.
