I think there has been a lot of problems distinguishing us between casual and hardcore. Even the editors of Giant bomb has stated that they like games, but they don't like the term or what pictures a hardcore gamer. So i'm making a new term specifically that applies to most people at giant bomb. Enthusiast Gamers.
Enthusiast gamers are people who watch the industry, go on sites like Kotaku, Giant Bomb, and whatever. Look at press releases, know the top dogs of developers, know developer companies, watch the market, watch sales, and so on. Where enthusiast gamers stand on the spectrum of Hardcore and casual is actually in the realm of both.
The distinction I make from Casual gamers and Hardcore gamers is, one group the casuals play mostly for fun. While the hardcore gamers play mostly to win. Those are the main two distinctions while everything else is basically in gray area. But Enthusiast are separate from the Hardcore and the casual, in that they can be both. There are people who watch the industry and read about games journalism who do not play to win, and there are people who do the same but play to win.

Where we stand...
The reason why I made this term, is because there is a stigma with hardcore gamers in that, no one here really want's to be associated with the frat boy with mountain dews next to their desk in their mothers basement. On the other hand, causal seems to have a stigma with the people on message boards and online since it seems like you don't know jack about games or are not good at them.
I think Enthusiast gamers is just an overall better term for us that defines us better. Because we are crazy for video games, but in a way that is very different from the two groups in that we look at release dates, we look at the philosophy of making games, we know certain developers, and we even know the journalists reporting on these games.

Do you know this guy?

Or this guy?

If you know these guys, then your probably and enthusiast gamer!
Do you think we should adopt this new term?
