It’s all personal tastes but I’m fine sticking around. I may not renew premium next year but that is more a testament to my finite resources and the increasing number of talented people who have Patreons I want to sub to.

Even when I was a teen I rolled my eyes at my generation’s “YOU WOULDN’T GET IT OLD PEOPLE” stuff and in my mid-40s I hate it even more. Thus forking and the Reel Layers are content I just don’t like.

I ignore the non-gaming stuff. I acknowledge it’s good but I have never been a “listen to an album” person so I just ignore it and I’m glad they still make stuff I do love!

In short, I love the core crew and the rotating guests like Mike. I don’t get anything I used to get from GB when I hopped on in late 2011 but that’s okay; life changes! I still get cool gaming content and a different kind of fun so it’s good with me.

I will say - as an avid Trek fan if Fandom runs ads on this site like they do elsewhere in their webring, I’m OUT. Try Memory Alpha on mobile, ads will cover at least 70% of the screen. Full screen pop over ads. Bleh. So if I do have to go non-premium and that’s the experience, no. But otherwise I’m sticking around and still having fun, just different fun!

He does seem like a nice guy. I will also admit I do get a bit tired of kids of famous racers suddenly appearing and getting a huge boost because money+name recognition=massive head start. Sainz is the same way, along with Oliver Solberg over in the WRC.

Dunno. I wish him well because he seems to avoid some of the prima donna drama some of the other drivers seem to attract.

For the record, a co-worker mentioned wanting to buy one for her boyfriend. Less than 10 minutes later we’d ordered one from the Sony Direct website and it showed up in two business days. I understand if every single person went to that site it would run out but it seemed like a truly weird contrast to the narrative that you still can barely buy one at all.

For the first year or so that I was premium I still downloaded the regular podcast feed because I figured that in a weird way it was helping boost ad numbers. When I could tell Gerstmann was really starting to hate the ad reads I switched over because it was such a depressing way to start each podcast.

Now I kind of wonder what insane world I have missed…

I view the new consoles as semi-walled-garden PCs and I don’t think that’s going to get much better. I don’t mind them not having any personality. I turn off the RGB on my PC and as long as it plays games I’m good. I was okay with Yakuza not being just on Sony systems; I would be fine if Halo was on a Playstation.

When I build a new PC I’m really excited for a while but within a couple days I realize it just means that for a couple years I can set the graphics sliders higher. I think we’re at the point where the same applies to consoles aside from the system-exclusive stuff.

@csl316: The issue is that if you click on those links and you aren’t logged in to Twitter, after you scroll past a couple tweets (let’s say Rorie puts like five cute dogs on there) it does a full page popover telling you to log in or get out. This seems to include the pinned tweet. I get this on desktop and mobile :(

@undeadpool: I dunno, actually. Some of them seem to really enjoy using it and I guess I've assumed it was part just having fun chatting about stuff and part because they get the business results they want, but that's an assumption. I'm glad they're looking into some options; I really do love seeing the random posts and opinions but a change of venue for that would be really cool.

@zombiepie: Indeed. The politics and reality of Chinese governmental behavior are difficult to grasp when we have a very loud subculture in the US who just hate “foreign” - I have had talks with people who feel like it’s racist to say bad things about China at all. From my view, people I know who study this (as in people who live in-country and other people who have literal degrees and a couple decades of work in both think tanks and working for the Obama administration) have spent a few decades of my life, at least, warning about the danger of letting China be part of our software and hardware infrastructure so completely.

My job puts me in contact with college kids (since I work at a university) and I think some of them would have to go to rehab if we took TikTok from them.

In this instance I don’t necessarily want to say, “Leave Twitter!” because I get the engagement benefits Twitter brings and I don’t expect GB to conform to my own politics. But if there was a reasonable way for staff to easily push that content to just one or two other platforms that would be pretty cool.

Howdy all.

With Elon buying Twitter, firing half the staff as we speak, charging $8 a month for a "verified" check that just means they "verified" your credit card, and Elon making promises that there will be less moderation but that somehow it will be more useful and positive, it's tough for me to justify being on it to follow my various hobbies. That is before we even get to the whole "the more you engage in content the more we'll show it to you" algorithm behavior that means stopping in horror on a story about something that disgusts you means you get more of that content even if you go out of your way to report or avoid it.

I know GB probably can't afford to abandon Twitter for a number of reasons relating to exposure, engagement, etc.

However, would the staff ever consider using a tool like Buffer (I'm not a tech expert, maybe they suck, just using them as an example) to multi-post so I could get my fix of micro-doses of the GB staff on sites like cohost, Mastodon, or CounterSocial?

I do enjoy following the staff on their numerous rants, adventures, and musings outside of the video and audio content, but I also just can't justify having a Twitter account. It's not healthy for me, I would posit it's not healthy for most people, and I doubt this new path will help much with that.

Forza Horizon and Horizon Zero Dawn are the two big games I have played set in Colorado (at least for the start of Zero Dawn). I would have given both a chance but I feel like people talk about “yeah cool mountains, skiing, hiking, farming whatever” and don’t set anything here so I get so happy when a game/movie is set here. Both were great games in their own ways but their goodness plus the setting won my heart.

I mean, The Shining happens here too, I guess 😂
