Modern Warfare 2 rightly deserves a place on this list due to the pure hype about it. But the game in its own right is a Game of the Year nominee because IW have created one of the most polished multiplayers of all time and a thrilling and exciting single player campign abeit a little short.

Dirt 2 is not just one of the Best Racing games of 2009 but one of the Best Games of the Year. The gameplay is just plain fun and every car feels great to drive. Drifting round corners in one the highlights of this game and its very hard to put down once you get going in the deep singleplayer.

Forza Motorsport 3 is one of the most polished driving games of all time, and rightly deserves to be a contender for Game of the Year. With a extremely deep career mode and customizable multiplayer, it offers hours of racing fun. Oh and its looks beautiful as well.

Many people claim that games such as Football Manager are little more than glorified databases, and in a way that is true, however no database has ever been as addictive and as fun and this one. The game takes reall tatical known how to succeed and really sucks you in.

The Beatles: Rock Band is a fantastic tribute to some of the greatest musicians ever, and also makes a dam good game in the process

Empire Total War is a fantastic RTS that continues the Total War brands great gameplay and fun micro mangement. The game has its flows and somtimes gets tedious but overall is a great game to sink many hours into.
