Honestly, the best way I've seen it summed up in the whole League vs. Dota waste of time argument is this: League is an action game with strategic elements, Dota is a strategy game with action elements.
As someone that likes Dota more than league (but agree on the waste of time nature of the argument) this is a good way to sum it up
