Game of the Generation (X360/PS3/Wii/DS/PSP)

Alright, this is probably the final edit on my list now with a reason why I even picked them!

List items

  • Rock Band is by far the best rhythm game I have ever played to this day. It had everything I ever wanted like good music, amazing co-op and great support! I spent so many hours on this game series but if I had to choose one it would be Rock Band 2.

Rock band 2 was probably the most played out of all the other Rock Band games just because it had a great career mode, probably the best songs on disc and the Rock Band DLCs were being pumped out like crazy. The reason I enjoyed this one so much is because Rock Band 2 was released at the right time considering it was still hot with everyone and I was also in college so it made a great party game almost every week.

I would also like to give a nod to The Beatles: Rock Band since I'm a Beatles nut.

  • Fast cars, crazy collisions, flipping cars on command and big ass jumps? Yup, that's Burnout Paradise!

Burnout Paradise was a game I keep hearing about from Jeff on the podcast and one day I just bought it because of that. Oh boy, my whole entire week disappeared without me noticing...

Finding all the gates, jumps, signs and doing all the races was a blast from beginning to end. The fun didn't end there because the multiplayer was also as good as the single player. Having missions for a certain amount of players in a current session was probably the best thing since it gave you so many activities to do. With a full set of players trying to line up under a ramp and one person has to jump over everyone else was probably the most memorable moment for me since it was complete chaos.

  • OK, I know many people will disagree with me on this one but screw them! Eternal Sonata is my favorite JRPG this generation.

This game was my first JRPG of the generation and boy I fell in love with this game quickly. The visuals look so pleasant and was so full of colours that it blew me away after playing a game like Call of Duty 4. The music is pretty fantastic and it was great how they were able to compose original music fitting to Chopin's compositions.

As for the game itself, I found the Xbox 360 version on the easy side, some of the characters were uninteresting and getting money was way too easy with Beat's camera. The combat is where I think it was fun because you get to control 3 characters and you have to chain attacks to fill a meter to unleash a powerful version of your special attack and eventually as the party level goes up the mechanic gets deeper and faster.

The story of the game was mostly good since it was about the death of Chopin and how he was dealing with it, young love and corruption in the world. With that said, this game probably has the most confusing ending I have ever seen. Even with the PS3 version expanding the story a bit, it's still confusing.

If I had to describe the game in one word it would be "Charming".

NOTE: This is mostly about the Xbox 360 version. I have finished the PS3 version which is the complete version but the 360 version made an impact on me.

  • This game has a lot of good looking cars guys!

So, I was never really a big fan of the simulation racing games until I gave Forza 2 a chance and I was hooked from that point on. I played all of them with at least over 300 hours clocked in for each game. There's not much I can say about this game other than it controls really well, the driving line is an excellent feature for beginners and the option to choose your car settings makes it the perfect racing game for anyone.

The reason I give Forza 4 the spot is because I think the online is excellent. It has so many things to do like racing, drifting, car soccer, and weekly challenges that keeps you coming back. The car club also made this game fun since you can race your club members ghost and try to get the better time. It was fun being a part of the Giant Bomb Car Club even though I only showed up maybe twice (sorry) ever but playing their ghost on the weekly was great fun after a long days work.

  • To be honest, I never was really hyped for Street Fighter 4 when it was coming out but for some reason I still bought the game day one. Fighting games was always a fun thing for me but never a serious thing but SF4 kind of changed that for me a tiny bit. Once I unlocked all the characters for the game and went straight to online and boy there was something addicting about ranking up in SF4 that I just couldn't stop. Once I hit a wall where I couldn't improve my skill I kind of stopped playing for awhile. It also didn't help with all the hate messages I kept on getting from other players.

As for the game itself, I really liked how it looked! I think it looked fantastic with the ink theme and the music is absolutely great! Like other Street Fighter games it played flawlessly. The only problem I had was dealing with Seth and of course Sagat haha.

NOTE: This is for Street Fighter 4 Vanilla!

  • Persona 4 Arena is the first fighting game I took seriously enough to actually make me want to go and learn how to get better. When this game came out (early for me) my friend and I could not stop playing it. Every time we met up all we would do was play this game.

When FluxwaveZ started hosting the P4A Giant Bomb tournaments that's when everything started getting fun as I met new people online and befriended them. Thanks to that, I was able to play a bunch of new people and learn how to deal with situations and character match-ups. Even though I don't play much now, I can't deny the time I have spent on this game.

This game has also introduced me to the FGC scene. Since I started playing P4A I started playing almost all other fighting games although I lean more towards 2D fighters. I've even took part in 2 local P4A tournaments until I stopped because it was expensive to get there... Oh well.

As for the game itself, I think it's the best beginner game for anyone since the controls are easy and yet the system is pretty deep. Online netcode has to be the best out of any game right now, I would even say it's tied with Skullgirls' GGPO. Thank you Arc System work for making such a great fighting game!

  • Who knew that a portable game like Advance Wars: Dual Strike can keep me playing this game to his day? It's one of those games that you can keep coming back to and never get tired of.

In this game the world got way more whacky and the vehicles got more ridiculous but that's all part of this games charm. They added a bunch of new characters with their own abilities which is pretty cool itself but having a tag team dogfight is pretty amazing and sort of broken depending on who you are playing as. The AI in this game is a bit punishing at times but it makes it so much more rewarding when you kick their ass. One thing for sure is that planning things out is a must for this game which is one of the main reason why I like this game. Make a few wrong moves and it's pretty much game over.

Also making your own maps and playing it with your friends is pretty cool too!

  • Not much I can say about this game other then it having wonderful music and great gameplay. Although in intense moments I feel like the line swipes a bit too slow but that's probably me being too slow... Even if I was terrible at this game, it didn't stop be spending hundreds of hours trying to top my scores.
