Games I'm Looking Forward to in 2014

List items

  • Lovecraftian steampunk city-building colonial management simulator. That's a lot of words up there, so let me clarify by saying it looks like it'll be fun building colonies and fending off fish people with muskets and cabbages.

  • Lots of space Dwarf-Fortress-alikes seem to be coming out as of late, but this one brings a L4D AI director and tactical focus on combat into the mix, unpolished models for colonists aside.

  • This getting delayed is good in one sense because it means I have time to upgrade my PC to 64 bit to accommodate to Watch Dogs' beefy PC requirements.

  • The variety of worlds you can visit and AI inhabitants you can interact with give hope this game will rise beyond being merely "Terraria in space".

  • Much like Watch Dogs, this recently delayed FPS with MMO and RPG elements gives me time to prepare for its release, which in this case will likely involve me deciding which of the next-gen consoles Destiny will be on to get. It's coming out for Ouya and the WiiU, right?

  • Titanfall realizes that in the future, people will fight with jetpacks and mechs, not just with drones and Eminem songs. And if this blows up like Call of Duty did, a games industry that copies Titanfall and Destiny doesn't sound like a bad one to me.

  • We know practically nothing but the title of this game, but it still looks neat nonetheless.

  • The Witcher has always had a unique fantasy world with unique British accents and debauchery, and I hope this will continue as we drive pale-skinned, white-haired badass Geralt off to murdering dudes and sleeping with their wives.

  • Fallout-esque top-down squad-based post-apocalyptic madness from the predecessor of Fallout. Aw man, that was a lot of words again, I should quit using so many marketing words. Or go into marketing. Anyone want to buy some DLC?

  • Also known as "that game Brad was talking about on Twitter before VGX" and later as "that game everyone is talking about everywhere after VGX". Ambitious as heck, but somehow I think the dudes behind Joe Danger (?) might just be able to pull this one off.

  • Gold-plundering, wall-jumping ninja action is going to come back real soon, and it'll be...colourful? The teaser doesn't exactly say much. But I bet it'll still be real frustrating yet fun at the same time.

  • SUPER. HOT. SUPER. HOT. SUPER. HOT.

  • Looks to have improved gameplay and controls from the original Dark Souls, while somewhat reducing the level of jankiness present in the original. Hopefully it'll be nice and optimized for PC, so I can lose the game repeatedly without losing frames repeatedly.

  • A four (?) player co-op shooter that combines Monster Hunter and Left 4 Dead into one novel multiplayer concept developed by the guys who did L4D? Yeah, ok.
