I think this is the best DLC so far, however, I have suffered frame rate issues, voice syncing issues and my game froze a couple of times (even when not in Point Lookout) which has never happened to me in Fallout before so it may in fact be DLC related, but not even close to being a deal breaker. The content is awesome it is very open and free form game play, with varied quests and a great redneck vibe going on. And the hallucination scene is amazing!

Just a note though Point Lookout is hard, not saying this is a bad thing just a word of waring. But don't let it ruin the game for you Bethesda programed 5 levels of difficulty for a reason.
(I had to bump it down from very hard to hard but even my 3 year old can play it on very easy)

Dead Space Review

For my review style I strongly believe in “innocent until proven guilty” so to me every game I play starts at a perfect score of 10 and then based on the flaws I personally find in the game I subtract point accordingly. So let’s begin . . .

Graphics:

-Technically the graphics were amazing; definitely one of the games strong points having smooth animations, great lighting and the integrated HUD is very cool.

-There were some minor issues with the occasional monster stuck in a wall, and some collision detection problems when I clearly hit a limb and it went completely unregistered. And frankly the camera is just to close, I understand that it is for dramatic effect but being blindsided by a monster is irritating and having a close 3 person has been done great before. (RE4) (Minus 0.5 Point)

-Artistically the atmosphere was again amazing, very dark and scary, nice use of the flashlight, the writing on the walls, good monster design, creepy atmosphere, and subtle details like blood trails and canisters rolling from around the corner ahead add tension and can make the game very scary at times.

-I also thought the outer space and zero gravity segments looked and felt great; they really gave you the sense of being in a desolate vacuum.

Controls:

- Definitely my biggest gripe about the game; the controls them self are not bad but rather the character movement. It can be clunky and somewhat unresponsive at times; this game desperately needs a quick 180 feature and leaves fighting in tight spaces almost impossible. (Minus 1 Point)

Sound:

-Music is powerful and very scary it can get your heart pounding when there is not even anything happening so I found myself geeking out for no reason at all, which says a lot about how good it is. The only very minor complaint was that the Alfred Hitchcock like screeching of the music can get annoying when you are just managing inventory or shopping.

-The sound effects are amazing from the clang of your big heavy boots, the subtle sounds of monsters crawling around in the air ducts above, to the compression/decompression of air locks, and the nullified sounds of outer space sound spectacular.

Story:

-The story is decent if not a little vague at times. I felt that your background, and motivation was a little lacking; Nicole is never really fleshed out completely, was she an ex-girlfriend, ex-wife, sister, what? And the importance of the marker seemed undermined. Your objectives are largely based on something always breaking on the ship which can make the game feel a little under creative and repetitive at times. The ending is a cliffhanger and feels a little unresolved but that is to be expected in this day of franchises.  (Minus 0.5 Point)

Game play:

- I played on normal mode and found the game above average on difficultly, with lots of cool graphic deaths, but not annoyingly hard. The puzzles are not hard but do cause you to look around and think a little The combat is satisfying with strategic dismemberment playing a very unique and awesome part of it, but is hampered only slightly by minor detection collision problems (particularly when using stasis to freeze enemies) Upgrading your weapons and rig (armor) seemed slow going at first but definitely picked up and was great by the end of the game. Dead Space seems to be going back to a more “survival” horror game, with less ammo, life and tougher monsters then the recent Resident Evil “action” horror games the series has become, and it feels refreshing. The staged events in the game are fantastic being some of the scariest moments in gaming, leaving you panicked and frantic.

Conclusion:

  - In all this was a great game with interesting combat, fantastic sound, and great visual style. The story is somewhat lacking but this is only a minor part of the game and is easily overlooked to enjoy this scary game. Atmosphere is what this game is all about and it does it perfectly; I see it as the new bench mark in horror games and will want to play the sequel when it hits store shelves.

I received dead space in the mail about 4 days ago and now am about half way through it so I thought I would write down some brief opinions about it so far.

It is decent so far there are definitely some scary moments like the first elevator ride was awesome, and the scarcity of ammo/health combined with enemies that take several shots to kill and dish out some pretty good damage makes it feel very much like a more traditional survivor horror game. RE4 is a great game one of my favorites in fact but the series seems to have gotten away from it survival roots and adopted more of a action horror feel, so it is nice to be playing an intense survival horror game again.

Some things I like so far are:

-strategic dismemberment is very fun and feels fresh and new

-the music is very scary and sometimes I feel myself panicking and feverishly looking around to figure out why it has just flared up, although several times it does so for no reason and can get slightly annoying screeching in your ear while just doing some simple shopping.

-the subtle triggering events, when you are walking down a hall and hit that invisible spot where something scary happens, but it may be as subtle as a canister gently rolls from around the conner. It makes you stop and think twice before moving on again.

-the sound effects are great from the monsters moaning many rooms away, or the creepy human whispering and even the clang from a monster crawling above you in an air duct, very effective and very scary.

-the voice acting seems good and the story is at least good at making me feel like I am not just completing random missions, so far.

-I also like the ideal to break up the game into chapters it gives you clear starting and stopping points and helps you feel like you have actually done something after beating a chapter.

Some things I don't like

-the camera is just to close, and really limits your field of vision and because almost every time you are attacked it is by multiple enemies from multiple direction it is easy to kill one and then be attacked from behind by a monster you didn't even know was there, and with life low and damage high this can get some what annoying

-sometimes what you are suppose to be doing is not very clear and although there is always a lighted path telling you where to go at just the click of a stick it can be a little confusing, not to mention if you have to map a buttons specific purpose to point you in the right direction perhaps your game isn't all that clear to begin with

-collision detection, in a game where you have to shoot off skinny ankles and wrists bullet detection needs to be very specific, there are times when I shoot an ankle and it doesn't even register a hit at all, but in all fairness this is rare and maybe I need to be more precise with my aiming

-increasing the abilities in the games is personally a little to difficult for my taste power nodes for upgrading you weapons, armor, and abilities are very rare with only 1 or 2 per level and sometimes requiring 2 to 3 to level you weapon just 2 points of damage, you can buy power nodes but they are steep and you will need the money for new armor suits, weapons, ammo and even buying health packs from time to time.

well that is what I think so far I am defiantly enjoying the game and am eager to complete it and run through it a second time. Also I am working on a specific review format so that I will adhere to the guidelines for all future reviews. Check back soon.
