Who all has played this since release? I really struggled with this game when I played it at PAX last year but the final version has a great tutorial and seems to generally be tighter and more focused. I have enjoyed my time with it a lot so far but I am a little sad to have gotten through all of the levels the game has to offer in three short sittings.
There's a rock in one stage, and a cloud in one stage, and a cactus in two. Those all come pretty early on though and I haven't seen them re-occur in the later holes.
So on the bombcast this week there was an email from a dude who said that he got to 4471 and it was 'impossible' and he emailed the developer of the game, who confirmed that it was impossible and that no-one he knew had made it past that point. I was pretty sure that this was bullshit given that I'm at hole 6730 so I am glad to find other people who have blown past the impossible hole.
EA drove one of the greatest minds in this industry out of the studio he founded by forcing changes on the game he was making, then they damn near buried one of the greatest franchises in the history of PC games with the direction they chose to take it in. Now they are closing that studio, ensuring that the only future for the once-great house of Maxis is an endless treadmill of micro-transaction content and expansion packs for The Sims. Sadly they will probably continue to rake in enough from The Sims that the catastrophic impact they had on its designer and his studio won't matter at all.
@the_korben: I can't speak on his behalf, but I'm fairly certain Patrick is not claiming to be the arbiter of all morals. He is writing about his reaction to the games, and apparently he had a negative reaction to some of the characters. Try not to lose your mind over this, the whole article is opinion and nothing about the way he phrases his objections to the way certain female characters are treated in 999 and VLR comes across any stronger than any other opinion he offers on the games.
I love this site, but I usually don't read the comments here. Today I thought you know what, Patrick said he's going to be watching the comments for a half hour, maybe there'll be some interesting discussion.
I am going back to not reading the comments here. Most of the first page seems to be "lol sexism doesn't real" and "fucking Patrick how dare he produce content." If this is the level of discussion on what I consider to be one of the most progressive and interesting video game websites in the world then I despair to think what the wider community is like.
Patrick I think you are pissing on a bonfire but I salute you for sticking to your principles and assembling thoughtful, interesting pieces like this. I will continue reading and enjoying them but there is no discussion here worth participating in.
